Hi Guys,

It is with sadness and a small amount of joy, I'm posting to let everyone know that Kermit has been sold to a collector in Munich, Germany.

Many of you are aware that Kermit has been for sale off and on for the last year or so. I have openly said that I will not sell him unless the "right" buyer comes along and that buyer would have to have the means and the desire to keep Kermit in a collection and in the same condition he is in now. I truly believe that Kermit is a part of Porsche 928 history and should be preserved as such. Having owned and refreshed Kermit for the last 5.5 years it has changed my viewpoint on owning cars in general. As part of my ownership I have realized that I am not a collector and while I'll never put a bazillion miles on my GTS (it's a 5th car right now......) I cannot own a car that I cannot drive; at least a little bit.

Over the course of the last year I've had some pretty interesting conversations with people looking to buy Kermit. One individual told me he was going to drive it like he stole it after making me a $45k offer. It goes without saying that I told him he would have to find another 928 to buy. Most folks, including Porsche AG didn't want to pay anything for Kermit partially due to the economy and partially b/c most collectors want 356s and old 911s and don't see the 928 as a valid part of Porsche history - INCLUDING Porsche AG! My thought on that subject is simply b/c they do not really know anything about the 928, especially the collectors. As for Porsche, they're just being Porsche......... they feel I should be privileged to be able to sell Kermit back to them?

Kermit departs Tuesday morning for the long trip back to Germany. I will miss him but feel good about his new home.

So long old friend!

When these were last posted for sale, there was a question about the plastic clips on the level support post holder that were broken off. What has been discovered is that when the top portion of the clips are all removed, the clips still function properly. Whether by design or by mistake, Euro Bosch lights can be clipped to the level motor post (if your car has them) or the support post wth only the bottom of the clips remaining. In fact, the post fits quite firmly in the clip without the use of the metal retension clip applied.

The price for these light is now $350 for the pair, without bulbs.

So for the last year or so, I have had to add coolant to the expansion tank about once every 8-9 weeks. There is no leaks of coolant on the floor or around the engine. I get some white smoke, but in 2-3 minutes it's gone.

On Monday I topped up the coolant to the normal level (took about half a quart) and then went for a drive - no problems. Tuesday night I took it out again and after about 10 min, the car started running really bad. If I baby the throttle it runs so..so. If I gave it more, it sounded like I was in high gear at 20 mph, when I was in 1st. At higher rpm I had a terrible vibration. It sounded like a cylinder was dead. As I limped home the coolant light came on - uh..oh!
Got home checked the coolant level and the expansion tank is empty...ahhhh..no! Check the exhaust and I got wet stuff coming out.

Anyway, this weekend, I am going to remove the plugs and check compression, but I have a sinking feeling the 4.5L is done.

So, I think I have 2 options;

1) Try to rebuild the 4.5L - Here I already have the engine but I understand it is very costly to rebuild.
2) Get a 4.7L and rebuild it to replace the 4.5L - this option means I need a 4.7L engine to rebuild... or at least reseal.

Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.

NOTE: I have checked the oil and it is dark but not chocolate or discolored. There are 6000+ miles since the last oil change.

Cheers,

Here's what I think I know. Can someone confirm or correct me.

My '90 GT has what I believe to be 16" Design 90 cast alloy wheels, center painted body color (GP white). I need to replace a rear wheel. Before I do, I want to be sure my wheels are factory correct for the car.

My research led me to 16" Club Sport forged wheels listed as correct for a 928GT. However, one source says the forged wheels were '89 only.

Question: Are the Design 90's (7.5" and 9") correct for my car?

And, if D 90 is correct, where should I begin to look for a used rear wheel?

I tried the radio code, but that didn't seem to make any difference
I also used the search function here and got no matches.

Hello everyone,
I知 the proud owner of a 1978 928 5speed. The car over all being 30 years old is in excellent condition. The drive train is strong and almost everything is working. I知 looking forward to restoring it. I would really like to do a retro restoration. What I mean by that is upgrading all the suspension composites (IE polyurethane bushings and coilovers), Pull the motor out and build and blueprint it, refresh the tranny upgrade the clutch and replace or rebuild all the subsystems. But that is all in the future because I知 still doing research. Right now I知 tending to the interior of the car and going over what really needs to be done to keep it safe and reliable on the road as is. I知 happy to report over all everything looks really good right now except the battery box is starting to rust. Anyway I know I will enjoy talking to all of you about cars and technical information sharing.

I have a strong background in EFI tuning and mechanics, When I was younger I built a few WRX race cars and a bunch of nice high powered Evolutions. I also have had a bunch of BMW M3s that I tracked so I have a wide range of automotive knowledge.

Now what's a new thread with out pictures

For the last month I would hook up a bypass wire between an unused fuse and my headlights anytime I needed them because they suddenly quit working. I could hear relays click when I turned the headlights to the second position, and the lights would pop up, but the headlights wouldn't turn on. After bringing the relay in and sanding the terminals, I decided to take it apart and resolder every joint. Popped it back in and the headlights are back in order. Now I can close my fusebox lid and fold the carpet back forward.

I bought a white '84 928 a few months ago and knew something in the driveline was bad. I thought it might be the tt bearings, but I finally found a tear in the outer CV boot on the driver's side. I know you can't take apart the outer CVs to completely clean it, but if I were to get the early axles that had the bolt on CVs would they fit? I gotta take the axles out anyway, so I'd like to know they are spotless and will last another 25 years once I put them back in. Also wouldn't you be able to unbolt the CVs without removing the 300ft-lb nut?

I'd like to upgrade my stereo to something current. I'm really looking for the Bluetooth integration, but also would like some of the new MP3 features as well.

Being a Porsche, I'd like to go with the new top-of-the-line Blaupunkt, the Bremen MP78. However, it was panned in the one online review I found on Amazon. The review claims it has a bad user interface, which I find hard to believe. The old Blaupunkts had great, simple controls and layouts - I loved my Blaupunkt in the late 1980s.

Anyway, the Bremen is an expensive unit - $600 - and doesn't seem to offer much above the next model down, the Hamburg MP68.

I might consider straying from Blaupunkt, but I've never cared for the appearance of the other popular makes - Pioneer, Alpine, and Kenwood.

The only other one I think is interesting is the Eclipse CD5030. Seems to be a little more basic, but includes an amp, Bluetooth integration, and USB connectivity (but no memory card reader).

I'm not a big car stereo guy. Just want to keep it simple with a receiver, no external amps, subwoofers, etc. Want decent sound, decent user interface, and some cool features, like Bluetooth.

Any thoughts?

One cell, 1700 RPMs and load value of 60 had an AFR of 15.1. The map targets a 14.7 AFR. So adjusting that cell should've resulted in a positive number. Instead, when I updated the map, it suggested reducing the fuel in that particular cell.

There were several lean cells, and in each case, the recommended adjustment was less fuel, not more.

Not sure what I am doing wrong or what might be causing the problem? Thoughts?

I just purchased a 83 928 auto. I was driving it yesterday and the car started to bogg down then clear up as I was driving it. I replaced the fuel filter, it also has a new fuel pump. It seemed to run good. But just before I got ready to take it out on the road. It stalled and would not start. I believe its spark or an emission part because it of the loss of engine power. I hear the fuel pump working and smell fuel. But, I pulled off the coil wire and it has good spark. I removed a spark plug wire and it has weak spark. The cap and rotor are ok with minor corrosion. Any ideas? Thanks.
