2012 Golf R, white, loaded, under 2K miles, $2K under MSRP obo
.
*****************************
EDIT: SOLD!
Less than three hours after I posted this, the car was sold to a Rennlister in Washington State.
*****************************
For sale: Totally mint candy white 4-door Golf R with nav/roof/keyless package, owned by 56 year old engineer.
(stock photo)
Zero door dings.
Zero scratches.
Zero drag races.
Babied since purchase.
Never near redline.
Front bumper NOT drilled for license plate.
I've had the car a month. It has 1700 miles on it. 1000 of those miles came from an easy-paced weekend road trip driving my daughter from Cincinnati to Virginia Tech to Ohio State to Cincinnati, and again from Cincinnati to Columbus and back.
Sticker price was $36,860. Asking $34,860. Title in hand. The car and I are located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Just a little too tight for me compared to my previous S4.
PM or email me through rennlist. My name is Paul Allen.
(No, I'm not the Paul Allen that was Bill Gates' partner...)

You can certainly get a GTI in the twenties, but a comparably-equipped GTI 4-door with the autobahn package (leather, nav, etc.) is $31,400.
The R gets more power, all wheel drive, huge brakes, different suspension, etc. It's really a good deal for what you get.
In the rest of the world the Golf R is about $55,000- about $20K MORE than in the US (below I configured one on the VW UK site with similar specs to the US version).
VW is just bringing them in to the US as a halo car, probably not making much if any money on them.

to the OP, that is a sick car. Definitely has some serious upgrades and looks a heck of
alot nicer than standard Golf's. Have you tried a trade in on something else? what is the VW dealer, or any other dealer willing to pay in trade? Also, I wonder
what Carmax will value the car at?

Three Wheelin'
Nice car. I heard that VW doesn't make any money on the GTIs either. Can't imagine that business model is sustainable but they do sell far fewer of them than the base (non GTI) models.

And for $599 you can drop in an APR tune via the OBDII port for 300+ HP.
You're mad about paying $20,000 less and getting 9 fewer horsepower?

Not all VWs depreciate badly.
I have a '04 VW Golf R32. Paid $31K for it new, selling it for $14k next month when my new Golf R arrives. That's forty-five percent of the original sticker on an eight-year-old car.
Not too shabby
The '12 Golf R is the third generation R model, my '04 R32 being the first generation. I wouldn't expect the Golf R to hold it's value as well as the R32, but I expect it will probably hold at least thirty percent of it's value eight years down the road.

Have to say I'll be looking for this exact same spec 6-12 months from now to replace my Audi A3 DD. 4 door, white with the option package.

Compare to S4
Just curious what year/gen S4 you had previously. I've been thinking about an R equipped just like yours or a V8 S4 - not immediately unfortunately, but would appreciate your insight.

Then had a B6 S4 (V8). Not much fun. Too big. Too heavy. Too thirsty (19 mpg highway was the best I ever did). More of a muscle car than a sport sedan to me. Fun for a week, not fun to live with.
