Yeah, whatever.

In any case, here is an article I Googled that talks about the history of burritos. In it, they note that Mexicans in Sonora used to put one or two fillings in a 12 inch flour tortilla and fold it up for the day.

-Sorry...but that's not a burrito, as far as I'm concerned.

Here's the story: http://marcsala.blogspot.com/2006/02...o-origins.html

My understanding is that burritos were basically invented in Mexican restaurants in California, and that in many rural places in Mexico today, if you ask for one in a restaurant, they give you a blank stare because they don't know what you are talking about.

In any case...this debate sure beats the hell out of ranting about politics!

If that's not a classic definition of a burrito what is it, a lunch bag?. That's like saying you don't drive a 'real' Porsche. You should stick to Cuban food and Key Lime pie since the proper use of tortillas seems to confuse you

yeah, a burrito can be anything you want it to be.

2 fillings inside a flour tortilla doesnt mean they didnt invent it, it means that all they could really afford was rice and beans or cheap meat.

i've had straight bean burritos and straight rice tacos.

very flexible foods.

Default Origin of the burrito - by one Author

Burritos
Like many other popular Mexican-American dishes, burritos combine ancient traditions (filled tortillas) with contemporary ingredients spiced to suit tastes of the general public.

"The burrito, meaning literally little burro or donkey, became irreversibly linked to the tortilla-rolled packages. Burrito lovers David Thomsen and Derek Wilson believe that the modern burrito originated "in the dusty borderlands between Tucson and Los Angeles." The word burrito first saw print in America in 1934. It was sold at Los Angeles's famed El Cholo Spanish Cafe during the 1930s. Burritos entered Mexican-American cuisine in other parts of the Southwest around the 1950s and went nationwide a decade later."

"Burrito. A tortila rolled and cooked on a griddle, then filled with a variety of coniments. Burritos are a Mexican-American staple. The word, from Spanish for "little donkey," first saw print in America in 1934. If fried, the burrito becomes a chimichanga."

burritos started in Northern Mexico, go to Juarez, TJ, Nuevo Laredo, and you'll be able to get them no questions asked.

probably as deep as chihuahua, too.

all that article did was tell us when they came to the US.
