Default Beyond the 6? The W-8

"Of course", the article says. From todays NY Times Auto section reads.
Reading this article I could'nt help but think of all thr V-8 rumors for the "next" 911's.
What's a W-8? Nestled cylinders made to close up the engine's "V" angle betweent the cylinder banks from 60 or 90 degrees to only 15 degrees. This by VW! , also made in W-12's and W-16's for the 1.2 Mill $ Bugatti Veyron.
The benifit simply is...Smaller Size, for instance a V-8 (Cylinders) in the space of a in-line V-6.
From their diagram it appears even Porsche's Oppposed 6 looks like it might fit in.
Anyone hear about this? In German they call it the VR-6 (for V-reihen)

I believe VW's narrow angle V6 has been around for a few years.

I enjoy it in my 95 Passat and I think it was around for a couple of years before that. I wish Porsche had the good sense to have developed that for the 944's!! A V (W)-12 928 would also have been sweet. It is very smooth, nice powerplant. The configuration was originally developed by Vincenzo Lancia in the 1930's. The "W" configuration is 2 banks of narrow angle cylinders in a regular V.

Don, Long time no talk! Tom, Thanks both for the feed back. Seems you can learn something daily.
So this is not something new after all. Good news I guess it's proven design.
Just too much time dreaming.
