I love the 992 Turbo S but and it is so good it almost feels like an everyday type of car, it might just be too good. It doesn't really get any attention from anyone as it looks just like every other Porsche, if that's your thing.

I was just thinking it would be nice to own a "Supercar" and I was looking at the 720s. I've been told the 911 is way more reliable and less expensive to own but I only drive my 911 2000 or so miles a year anyway.

Anyone have any experience with Mclarens and have any input on it? Good or bad, either way, just looking and throwing ideas around.

I've heard that also but also read where people have tuned them and had no issues.

Unreliable with both a tune or stock is the feedback that I have heard from their owners that also had Porsches, so may not be the best feedback......I would go on the McLaren website forums and see what's up.......since you plan to drive it less than 2000 miles a year....might just be a nice toy to play with......no harm done and go from there......

That is what I was thinking but I still don't want to buy something I have to have repaired all of the time.

Just make sure to get the car checked out.
My son had one.
It was in the dealership shop for a month getting fixed.
He decided to trade it in since he had ongoing issues with it.
He planned to go directly from the shop to the dealership he was trading in into.
It appeared fine when he left.
The “check engine” light came back on before he even got there.

I had a McLaren 600LT Spider, expect to get a lot of attention everywhere you go. That can be good and bad. Cars don't drive great on poor roads, less reliable and will take a depreciation hit, although you probably could get a good price right now. Get one on warranty, do not modify the car, that will void the warranty. Also if you track it you need to do a pre and post inspection, if not, that may also void the warranty. The electronics are horrible. Get it to scratch an itch, it will be worth it. I think having an exotic is a phase we all go through, for me it was going from Porsche to Ferrari, to McLaren, and now I'm back at Porsche. Can't beat the (relative) reliability and headache-free ownership experience with Porsche.

Not sure it's a competitor to the TTS, though.

GT versus true sportscar.

If you can get past the ingress/egress, high carbon tub, and lack of storage (not back seats) then you'll love the 720S.

Puts Porsche to shame, really.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I basically only really worry about reliability with them and depreciation, but I can buy a 2 or 3 year old one and let someone take that hit.

You know, I have read people say this but every single actual owner I've talked to says that they have been pretty reliable and the stories you read online are people just repeating things they have read and not experienced, and they haven't even owned one. Have you owned a newer McLaren?

I was really close to buying a artura spider, but my gf convinced me to go with a heavily spec c4s cab.. What I can say is the 720 is a totally different beast. better ride, better looking and better performance. You will not regret it.
Now if you can forget about the depreciation and just drive the car, you'll be ok
