I’ll join up and take a number.
I’m 60 years old. Bought my first Porsche (944) when I started my medical profession. Always wanted an air cooled classic but I couldn’t afford it until I was 50ish. I now own the following;
1980SC
1985 Carrera
2011 997.2 Carrera S
I finally got the courage up this month to try my 997.2 on a local track here with some other PCA members. It was a very cool experience. Let’s you know exactly what these cars were designed to accomplish. Of course I had the thoughts “don’t get road rash and don’t miss a turn!”

Mark, she will love a newer Targa! While she certainly deserves a little input, the final decision should be yours imo. Somewhere along the line, I was about to close the final mediation meeting with an ex roommate when the topic of frequent flyer miles suddenly arose. I quickly informed everyone at the table that it was my butt that sat in that seat for the million miles. If you want to discuss ff miles we can go back to square one & begin again.
I consider myself the most generous person I know, honestly, but it’s ok to be a little selfish once in a while. :-)

OK, I'll bite and take #88 as a tribute to the infinite loop of Porsche ownership (and the 88 928 GTE Prototype in my quiver of Porsches.). My first Porsche was a 67 911 that I bought in 1977 (still have it) and I care not to count the number that have graced my various garages.
Age has both chronological and biological markers. The biological one is affected quite positively by driving Porches with enthusiasm!
Porsches keep us young and active, one stab of the throttle or brakes at a time!

Ok - how about the Seniors opinion on tires? I have read most of the tire threads, but the vast majority of post sre the youngsters in their TT, T, GTS track types. Our needs may be a “little” different.
I’m no longer a big track guy, but do go out a few times a year to throw in around & have a little fun. Not gonna win anything in the Targa:-) I do take advantage of the very few fun roads with some more than spirited drive a couple of times a month. Add a little city driving, but the primary need is the back roads on long summer road trips on both ends of the spectrum; Tail of the Dragon to wide open N.D. back road at 160.
it’s about time to change all four, so what are your thoughts?
* Pirelli - I have been pleasantly surprised with the P-Zeros. Except for road noise, I could probably do these again.
* Michelin - the PS4S seems to be the consensus choice.Thinking the youngsters keeping up with the status quo with most of there comments.
* Continental - lot of good comments about the DWS06+ - seems like it might be the best for road noise.
* Nankang - the CR-S seems like a pretty good all around choice
* Yokohama - I’m in the dark here, but Porsche is now using them, so should be considered.
Thanks in advance.

As a topic has been the reason for the Porsche purchase, I will volunteer that my reason was not about "always wanting" a 911 but more that my first love, BMW, 5's really (drastically) changed. My E39 was a beauty. My F10 550 was a fast beast but kind of "way too big". As time went on they got bigger and uglier.
At my age when I ordered the GTS (65), I felt it was time to switch brands. The 4 door - kid ultra safe requirement had long passed. But the 911 hunt ?, It almost didn't happen, 911's were easy to get prior to the pandemic. When I decided to buy one it was kind of a shock. Get on a long wait list, or pay 25k over MSRP. I never paid MSRP for a bimmer, usually much less. But I found a great salesman, He said "if you put down a deposit and wait" the car will be MSRP. and he 100 percent kept his word and better.
So I will be enjoying my 992 GTS for a while. And I am very glad I have it. I may find a 2012 era M3 with a V8 too. It should be fun to bake those 2 off, on the track.
The GTS is proving to be every bit as amazing as I had hoped. Better than any of my BMW's by a big margin. My only gripe ? Colors come and go, mostly go. PTS ? really ? you cant even get it when you want it.
So I'm a happy camper.

The OEM winter tire/wheel kit for the 992 came with Continentals and they worked fine in the cold (I don't take it out if it's snowing).

Closing in on 74, so if it's not taken, I'll take it.
I started with an Opel Kadette during the college years.
Followed up with two Mopars, a Duster and Challenger.
After the Challenger, the recognizable sound of an air cooled always turned my head. As a highly educated elementary school teacher in New Hampshire a Porsche was a dream. However a friend had a BMW which corrupted me. Local BMW dealer in Vermont also sold Porsches, but due to finances I purchased a 75 2002. It was a blast.
My wife to be lived in south eastern Mass so I did weekend trips back home in the 2002 to see her. I would wind it up on 128 and chase Corvettes and others.
Then I grew up, returned to work in Mass and got married. The 2002 went up on blocks in the warehouse for 18 years or so.
One day I decided to have it made road worthy again, and did. It came home, went in the garage and I tinkered on it. Unfortunately the trips to the BMW parts counter required passing the local Porsche Dealership. That's all it took. I went Boxster hunting and came home with one one day when my wife was at work. Surprise Honey, look what I found, a 2008 black 987.
After two years worrying about the IMS and rear main seal issues I swapped it out for a 2010 Boxster S.
One of the biggest mistakes in my opinion was splitting up Porsche/Audi dealerships.
When picking up her A6 at the dealership for service, I wandered to look at the Porsches on display. Remember when it was possible to walk into a dealership and buy a 911? That's what I did after smooching my wife's you know what. Put the deal together, went to the bank a few days later and purchased s 2013, 911S convertible which is still in my garage.
Took me 63 years to get a 911 is what I reply when people ask me how much it costs, and that ends the conversation.
As I said, closing in on 74 years old, but still adding miles to the 58K on the odo when weather permits.
Sorry to ramble. Dan
