Default Porsche Seniors - The Official Forum

In the few years I have been on the “List”, I have read enough to think there are enough of us to have our own place. A place we can share our P-car history, current road trips, cars & maybe a little wisdom without the “old man” 30 year old replies. Certain requirements are needed to join the Seniors Club:
* You must have a sense of humor
* Minimum age - 59 (we can vote on that later, but need a starting point
* Current or past P-car jockey
* Each new member gets a “license” number
** I obviously claim #001
** First time visitors, scroll back & add 1 - declare your number on first post
Look forward to meeting everyone.

I'll be #003

74 years old and I cannot figure out how that could possibly be right! Thought it was going to take a lot longer to get old.

Bought my first Porsche when I was 17 and just bought my 26th last week.
It's been a lifelong addiction!
Of course there are some I wish I had kept like the '55 Speedster and the '55 Emory 356 Outlaw and one of the four 993s.
Had the "kid in the candy store" dream job as general manager of Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories. Then started my own business Fast Lane Scale Models.
I was on the pit crew for an ALMS 993 race team.
For the last twenty years I've been building Porsche Dioramas for clients like Seinfeld and many others.

I’m 64. I claim 008. My first 911 was a CPO 996 C2 cab. I loved driving it, but it was unreliable. I was grateful for the CPO. On one repair, my salesman said “I have a loaner for you”. It was a CPO 997.1tt. A day later service called to say my car was done, I told them I’d be there in 20 minutes, it was the end of the day- I pulled up and walked in. A few salesmen were there with a couple of service advisors. I opened the door, stopped and said “you bastards”. They howled. Needless to say, that was my first turbo. Because of my experience with the 996, I traded the turbo for new Cayenne diesel when the CPO expired and leased a 991.1 C4.Didn’t really like it. Had a stroke and was partially paralyzed on my left side. Did not have the strength to get out of a 911, so once I was able to drive, I bought an Audi RS 5 cab with an automatic transmission because I couldn’t work a clutch anymore. The Audi was nice, but… Four years later, we were buying my wife a Macan and while we were waiting I checked out the 911s and was surprised to find I could get in and out just fine. Bought a CPO 991.2tt cab PDK. I love it, very reliable. Got the air cooled bug and bought two 1992 964 tiptronic cabs (one for each house). Love them too. Still have the Cayenne (100,000 miles) and the Macan.

The funny thing about my Porsches is four of the five of them have odd electrical bugs. The turbo will not unlock both doors with the remote. Apple play will not work roughly 10% of the time. You cannot lower the volume on the phone ring in the Cayenne. It’s stuck on roughly 911 decibels. One 964 requires two turns of the ignition switch to lower the top. The other’s left front turn signal doesn’t work (other functions of that lamp are fine) The Macan is great (knock on wood).

#001 here. I did not leave any info about me in the original post, so here you go.
Almost 80, I can see the finish line, but cannot judge the distance. The body & spirit are not always on the same page, but all is well as long as I can turn the key. The first P-car was a ‘65 356SC. The first 911 was a ‘70 911T. The current 991.1 Targa 4S will be the last. I would not have this one without a lot of help from my son, so he will get to carry on when the time come.

The car is mostly a weekender with an occasional run up River Rd to Baton Rouge, no canyons in the south! BUT, every summer, health permitting, I make one long road trip. Last year, touched all four coast, 9,981 miles to be exact. Staying off the interstates as much as possible offers great back roads & nights in smaller towns I would never plan to visit. So many memories about the people I have met of these trips. The 911 & a cold Bud are always a conversation starter.

There is a post, God is my Copilot, that is a daily journal of the trip with pics if interested. From the bayou to Natchez Trace, Tail of the Dragon, Blue Ridge Parkway, Road to the Sun, etc., etc., it was an epic trip for me.

This year’s trip will hopefully start in Birmingham at the Porsche Parade for a few days. From there it is wherever the spirit take me. The mountains of MT & WY are a magnet to me, so no doubt I will stop there along the way.

If this thread last, I will post a few pics along the way.

You should try to come to Porsche Palooza in Eureka Springs AR in November.
Its the second largest PCA event next to the Parade.
Close to 400 Porsches and 600 people.
