NB 993

Hello all - I am in my early 30s and about to finish training to be a urologist which makes me capable of affording to buy my all time dream car, the Porsche. This is my first but certainly not the last Porsche that i will buy. I will have a budget of 40-50k and am stuck with the biggest dilemma.

Should I go with a more iconic, engineering masterpiece of an air cooled 993 with the all the real characters that makes a 911 a 911?

Or should i go with a much more modern, more efficient and beautifully designed 997?

I have only test driven two brand new 2015 models and have about a year to decide so will keep doing my research and drive as many as i can but i want to hear from people in this forum especially ones who have owned both.

I would get a 997.1 or .2 GT3RS. EPIC CAR. Not to mention would be a good, fun and investment, one to hang on to for awhile since no more Metzger 6 speed manuals are being produced.
Unless you find a higher mileage tracked vehicle the price will be higher. Well worth the price though. Just my .02

This may be a hazmat nightmare. Shippers are going ape$*!t about unknowingly shipping hazmat.

One oil stain on the outside of a cardboard shipping container means Customs will be using it as a coffee table for a long time.

I'd buy the car I wanted to drive everyday, not the one others will think is iconic. I've put about 10k on my brothers 993 and really liked it but my 997 is the car id rather sit in all day. I did sell the 997 after 6 months and just bought a 2013 991 which I wouldn't get rid of unless I only wanted a collector car.

This is a lighter, faster and more reliable car
Than a 993
And the a/c really work great even when stuck in
Traffic

With that budget, I would do one of the following
997.2 base carrera (non-S)
996 turbo (look for second gear popout issues... easy to test for)
997.1 with extended warranty

I would not go 993 at that budget for your first porsche.

I too just bought my first Porsche (997 s) with a trade of my 2009 BMWM3. I LOVED that car, but the quest for a 911 simply could not be denied. I pick it next week. Only 28k miles on it but I'm having a pre-purchase inspection done. Anything I should expect to find in the inspection that shouldn't freak me out? Thanks.

My car quest came down to Audi R8, 997.2, or a 993. My requirements were manual gearbox and cabriolet. After a bunch of research and soul searching, I went air-cooled. I found a low miles car with excellent documentation, and it is black as a bonus. Now, this car is only for me to have a little fun with, drive around with the top down, take the wife out to dinner in, or a nice cruise up one of the canyons. It is not a daily driver, and I will drive it hard now and then, but I will not beat the tar out of it. I plan on keeping this car for a long time, and when I sell it, I expect to actually make money.

If I was looking for a daily driver I would have went with the 997.2.
