Default Snooty Porsche dealers.

I know Porsche vehicles are expensive etc but I find the atmosphere in Porsche dealerships stiflingly snobbish and arrogant. Some of the guys in these dealerships look down on you like your dirt. Especially if like me you drive an 11 year old 997.

The car is like new though and maintained like its a god. I dress casual so mostly its jeans and a T shirt and I am not that particular that my shoes are always shining.

Think I got off to a bad start when I told them after booking my porsche in for a job (see my other thread) that I did not want them to wash the car. I detest dealers washing cars as they usually have their lowest paid employee doing it who almost always wash them with a brush. These brushes cause horrible swirl marks on the paint.

I asked for a trade in price against a new 991 Carerra S they had in stock and they still have not got back to me with a price.

Alfaguy2 you need to come here to NYC. NY best kept secret is Manhattan Motor cars.
They traded my 1st gen 996 for a 2009 997.2 and Ive been treated by royalty ever since.
They just built a flag ship store in manhattan and even have a motor sports specialist Frederick Chan Motorsports Manager who knows all there is to know about porsche mods.

It's not just Porsche dealers. Out of my last four car purchases in the last few years.. I went to buy a new Lexus and they were rude, aloof or however describes best this type of treatment, so I bought it the following day at another local Lexus dealership owned by a different conglomerate, they were great.
Next I went to buy a new Range Rover and the same happened so I bought it locally elsewhere as above. My Porsche I bought pre-owned online, that was great.
Most recently I went to a local MBenz dealership to buy an AMG GT S and was treated as described above, so I went to another local MBenz dealership and it was my best new car buying experience ever, by far.
(Apparently the first Benz place is privately owned and the 2nd one is corporate and they take customer service very seriously there)
That's my experience, I am easygoing and cheerful btw lol, not hard to make a sale off me. Who wouldn't be happy when going to get a new vehicle they want?

LOL!

A few months ago I went to see a 996tt they had. Made a 90 mins trip and all I got was to turn on the engine. Never mind get to drive it, it was on the rooftop blocked by dozens of other cars unworthy of being shielded from the elements. Throughout my visit, the salesman talked to me like I was a nuisance and didn't even attempt to fake a smile. I asked if I could get a DME read of the car, he said he'd have it in the next couple of days. Im still waiting for it 7 months later haha!

Which is great in a way because I ended up buying what surely is a much better car.

Anyway I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than buy a car from them.

I've found it depends on the salesperson. However, have always had a good experience at service/parts and with the mechanics. They seem more likely to be at the track or local cars and coffee with, or working on, a variety of cars, Porsche and otherwise. Mechanics at my local dealer helped me cram two sets of tires into my beat up sedan one day after I was pretty much ignored walking through the show room. Great for service, would probably buy from a different one a little farther away.

Try walking into an exclusive Beverly Hills dealership full of exotics with long hair, big beard, ratty jeans, and an old t-shirt to eyeball a 356.

Sales guy told me I couldn't afford it. Pulled out my keys and told him I already had one

I'm new here but I had a similar experience today in Hartford. I went in to see a CPO 991 C2S. Fabulous car btw. Anyway I told them I was thinking of trading my E92 M3 LRP edition. The sales guy put the hard sell on and kept saying how much better Porsche is and how much better they're engineered. Total turn off. Then they low balled me on the trade in value so I left. I half expected it to be honest. Oh well. Going to try some other dealerships.

Substitute the vehicles appropriately and you described the experience with pretty much any dealership for any manufacturer where you don't have a prior relationship with a salesman or manager.

FWIW I had a very positive experience at Danbury Porsche.

If they have anything that suits I can probably find the sales guys name - it was good enough that I didn't automatically throw the card away, which is unusual for me.

LOL thanks Alan. Yes some of my PCA DE friends recommended a sales guy that they deal with there so I'll try there next. They have a couple cars that look promising. I just went to Hoffmann because they're local to me and I wanted to drive a C2S. I'm just in the beginning of me search. But man that C2S grips. I love my M3 but this is a whole new level. I'm hooked and I'll get one I just need to find the right car.

So sold my 997 S yesterday privately and it just happened that final handover of the car took place in the Porsche dealership as it had just been serviced there.

So I later asked for a test drive in a 991. I waited a while, looked at the nice new porsches, waited another while. Then this sales guy walks in and I get a few looks through a half open door from him and the receptionist or whatever he was who I originally made the request for a test drive to.

He comes over -'your looking for me? !!! I said I wanted to test drive a 991. 'Oh we don't have any' and I am with a customer now and will be for the next hour'

Not interested in taking my name or phone number to try and even arrange a test drive subsequently and an abrasive arrogant attitude. Needless to say that kind of treatment leaves a sour taste towards the brand. My replacement for this car will probably be an Alfa Romeo 4C as even though the 991 is awesome I just can't stand the dealer. There is only one in this country.
