Default Steering wheel quick release for 981 Clubsport?

I picked up an OMP quick release hub on the recommendation of several friends that use them in their cars. It looks and works great but I am lost on how to address properly spacing the PDK paddle shifter assembly with the quick release installed. I can stretch the loom a little to clear the space but the hub rubs the wires against the paddle shifter modules and of course with the paddles connected to the wheel side of the hub they are in the correct position for proper spacing and easy shifting but you can't move the released wheel very far with it connected to the wiring harness.

So my questions from this experience are:
  1. Has anyone installed a quick release on their 981 CS?
  2. If so, what hub did they use?
  3. How did they source some kind of PDK compatible extension for the wiring harness?

Thanks

Jeff

The best way to do this is by using a Krontec quick release with built in connector. You'd basically cut the harness, and pin out both sides. Not for the faint of heart, but the best way by far.

Thanks for the reply 38D (I assume that was your HS locker number?)

I looked at that option and had considered it but I have seen some PDK wheels (such as the one KMP sells) that use a curly extendable harness adapter that is plug and play. I am hoping to source something like that if possible. If now, I may be going back to this option.

Do you have a the MR button plate or just a the regular CS wheel? If you can locate the other end of the curly cord, you should be able to make an extension pretty easily. If you have a picture of the connector(s) involved, I could help point you to some suppliers of the components (curly cords, connectors, tooling, etc).

This gives you an idea of the layout for the 981 MR. Had to fabricate a spacer to get the wires to the center of the connector. Used a coiled pig tail in the past but went this route for a cleaner installation

It is the regular CS wheel. I will try and grab a picture soon. Getting ready to head to Summit Point this weekend with SCCA.

Thanks Chris. That seems like the common approach. I was expecting to use a coiled pigtail based on what I had seen on the KMP wheels for 981 PDKs.

Sorry to revive an old thread…

Im currently trying to install an MME universal racing paddle shifter kit to a Momo racing wheel and using the original wiring harness from my OEM Sport Design Steering Wheel. Struggling to connect the 2-pin wires coming from the +/- paddle shifters into the existing wiring.

I can’t see what wires connect the PDK shift signals back to the clock spring connector as they are all black!!

Do you guys have a wiring diagram that you used to wire the QR hub?

This is being fitted to a 997.2 Carrera 2 S PDK
