This. Spot on. IMO 911 cabs look horrible vs the hardtop. The lines are compromised. The beautiful rear is dulled. My 911 C4S hips were sexy....my Spyder is also sexy but not as mean .
Bathtub vs Spyder, Spyder all day. Hardtop vs Spyder......different discussion for many reasons.

In my house, the 911 cab is called "the bathtub car" because it looks like a bathtub, top up or down.
The Boxster is clearly a purpose built convertible sports car that looks even better with the top down.

Try calling the 911 cab "the bathtub car" for a few weeks, and maybe she relents.
If not, enjoy your bathtub car, it's less important than your day to day living.

Love the fact that she cares, really cares, about what you get and knows enough about the two cars to be a little bit dangerous. Cool lady. Many (not all mind you) just stay out of the process and defer to the gent. She sounds scrappy to me.

Good luck in your you AND your wife's decision!
I appreciate the input. She is a Gulf Blue lover and hopes to get a 911 in that color one day, and she gets her share of attention from guys, 911 or not. I will try and sell her on the Spyder, but if it doesn't work out, I am sure we can live with a 911 cab. Her "must haves": sport suspension, big exhaust sound, 3-pedal car, top-down driving. We test drove a Boxster S (which I was about to buy) but she though it to be a little underwhelming, lacking in presence. She recently sold her Yas Marina Blue M4 6MT and wants a similar car with gravitas.

Now, we are moving up the ladder: 911 C2S cab, Boxster Spyder, Turbo Cab. Ideally, as was mentioned, the 911 cab and a Boxster Spyder is the ideal 2-car quiver.

I’ll say this one last thing, too. The only reason to get a 911 is if you need the 2 rear seats. Otherwise, the 2-seater is a better choice. There, I said it. I have a 911 because I can take my kids with me.

If big exhaust sound is a must for her, the Spyder is much louder than the C2S. The Spyder DOES NOT SOUND like a Boxster at all.

I've had a Cab C2S and now a Spyder.

Hands down you want the Spyder - there is no debate.

For your wife, the visceral sound of the exhaust in the Spyder, vs C2S would clinch it out of the gate.

That's if you had blindfolded her to get into the car. Spyder looks distinctively better and often get asked if it's a F car.

Cab with sports design is like lipstick on a pig (not wanting to be harsh), whereas Spyder is pure sex.

Spyder wins in the driving experience hands down.

Have her drive one - will be much more effective than anything you can tell her.

I let go of the cab C2S in a heartbeat, will never let the Spyder go.

Oh - and my wife likes the Spyder too - for what it's worth.

Just curious - was that initial start a cold or hot start? And does a cold start sound any different than a hot start?

Not my car... but there is no difference cold or hot. You can see him push the sport exhaust button after few seconds which makes a big difference in sound though.

You've got a cool wife....can't believe nobody's pointed that out yet. Mine's not bad either; got her a Panamera S for 20th anniversary; she loved it! Only issue is she want my next 911 to be an automatic. Not going to happen.

That was not a cold start. RPM's would have stayed up for a bit had it been.

I have been asked that quite a lot. Sorry, no. She is a keeper though: she even won last month's PCA club trivia quiz!

Cool wife you have, truly caring about what fun car to get,.... nice

Go out checkout and drive both cars on the same day, then make a choice...

in my opinion the 911 cabrio looks like it has a huge but and no way near as good as the coupe or targa. For the 911 the targa is best looking in my opinion. The spyder however is a real head turner where ever you go. People instantly know it is a apecial car.

did you cross post on the 911 sub forum?

link?

Here’s an idea... has she driven both? The 991 feels way more hefty and grand tourer. She may like that. The Spyder drives like a dream. And... the Spyder will hold value, and 991 will continue to drop like a stone. And, all the expensive upgrades will be worthless. IMHO, the cab is the red headed stepchild. But hey, any porsche drop top is a super cool ride.

Spyder hands down if you're primarily the one driving it, cab otherwise. To those saying the Spyder will hold value better, I agree -- but with a lot of mileage, unless we're talking a very long time horizon, it might not be as crazy of a difference as we like to lead everyone to believe (likely different buyers). Also, the cab is way more practical IMO. It's significantly bigger.

Hey either way, sounds like a win-win situation!
