Default Opinion on trading 997.2 GTS for this build of GT4?

Greetings

I traded in my 6 spd 911 C4S for a PDK 991 GTS, and missed the smaller car and manual transmission. Keeping it but just bought a mint 2012 6spd 911 GTS and love it...but....

I had not even considered a GT4. Found a mint CPO 2016 w/ 4k miles and test drove it. It's more raw and a real hoot. Power is comparable. Feels even smaller. I dig it.

Two questions:

Whether to upgrade

The build of this car, and what it's missing. They want $99k for it. GT silver. 4k miles.

Obviously I'm biased toward the GT4. GT Silver (you say) and Rhodium Silver (listed) are two different colors...make sure you know which is which and you understand the difference. Some people have not liked the Rhodium Silver. But I like it; although, I prefer GT Silver a bit more, if I was going for silver. The car you list has one of the two big options (has full bucket seats, does not have PCCBs). I'd knock them down for "only" having the iron brakes, as the price seems a bit high to me otherwise. Plus, there are some smaller options that would be nice to have which aren't listed, like additional leather (steering column, steering wheel, shifter), dual zone air, dimming mirrors/auto wipers. These are all reasons to bargain down on the price, maybe 5-8%. I do wish I'd specced mine with the sport chrono. Perhaps you can use the coming 718 GT4 to your advantage here, and leverage the firming of 981 GT4 prices to turn the tables on them by saying it wouldn't be that much more money to get a new car specced the way you want it. Good luck!

Definitely priced a bit too high. Why not browse the classified and check out Agent Oranges car? It’s a much better build with a lower price tag too

Thanks. It is a fun drive. I brought up the new GT4 as an option and they said "oh almost impossible to get one" and I pointed out that the new GT4 will not be a limited production car based on what I have read. They said not true.

It is a f*cking beautiful car and so much fun.

You may have to wait until after the initial demand is satisfied, but the new 718 GT4 will not be "almost impossible to get." Heck, I was able to get not one but two 981 GT4s in late 2015 with the second round of allocations, both at MSRP (I only took one, I'm not greedy!) Salespeople are not the most trustworthy lot; not all of them, of course, but don't believe everything some of them say. Regarding the car you were contemplating, I'd offer upper $80s and work up to $90k. If they don't accept your offer, there are plenty of other cars available. You're right, the 981 GT4 is beautiful and fun! Good luck!

I've spent a lot of time in both—both are great—and went on to buy a GT4 and daily it for two years and 15,000 miles, however…a good 997.2 GTS in a spec you like is a rare car and one of the most special water-cooled 911s IMO. Highly underrated, and better than some GT3s on the street. If you will drive the car in question mostly on the street, I wouldn't trade a 997.2 GTS away for a GT4.

YMMV/OMMV, and that's cool.

Thanks for your input. Yes the 997.2 is going to be the last true 911's. After that they have become a grand touring car.

I own my GTS so I'll drive it a year or so and see what happens. It's a great drive, more exciting than my 991 GTS, and will at some point be as desirable as a 993 IMHO

So interesting you say that, as it was my takeaway at the 991.1 Carrera GTS launch at Willow Springs and in the LA mountains, and again later on longer road tests in both the 997 GTS and both 991 GTSs. There is something magically right about the 997 GTS. My ideal spec is coupe 6MT without Sport PASM...which is a very rare car as most dealers (and a lot of buyers) added Sport PASM and thus deleted the GTS-only suspension system for one shared with the narrow 997.2 Carrera S. Cabrio, which could only be had with the GTS-only suspension, is also exceptional...which is pretty interesting.

Didn't have a GTS but had a modded 997.2 S the GT4 is superior in everyway other than being able to throw my dog and yoga mat in the backseats.

That's the exact build that I have. Manual trans no Sport PASM. I read the review that mentioned your same comment about the suspension.

When I found it a month ago there was like ten people calling on it as it had 20k miles and looked like it was in the wrapper. The driving intensity is fabulous.

Thanks for the note.

Pic of your GTS? I'd say keep your 6MT 997 for street driving. GT4 for track.
