Default Question Spyder 981 alignment

Will I be able to add some negative camber (1-1.5 degrees)in the front? Will I need shims or not? I'm doing the research before I take the car in.

Thank you.

Yes, you can adjust your negative camber in front and rear using a number of methods, shims being the easiest. I don't know if the Spyder has adjustable LCAs like the GT4, so you'll have to look that up.

Check out this thread, it has great info for alignment suggestions.

I had a GT4 but I went with the coil-overs which made it easy to adjust. The Spyder has the analog suspension...different than the GT4. I will read the tread.

My understanding is that camber can typically be adjusted in (3) different ways, however the way to achieve it is pretty much the same across most platforms 996-992 and 986-718...

1. Top hat which is circled on top right. You can change the angle by moving the top strut in towards the car or out towards the street.
2. Lower control Arms (LCA) by adding/removing shims, circled bottom right. You can adjust the angle by adding/removing shims to move the bottom of the strut out towards the street or in towards the car.
3. Strut height (spring, coilovers, height adjustmet, etc.). This will change the geometry of your car (ride height, strut length, etc.) which changes #1 and 2 above.

For instance, if you use a stock suspension on a base 981 vs your spyder. The base strut is longer than yours and will need more shims to achieve -2.5 deg. where as yours would require fewer shims to achieve the same. In this situation, the base 981 would need an adjustable LCA (GT3/4 or aftermarket) to allow shims to be added. I don't know if the stock Spyder LCAs are adjustable.

Edit: I found a post with the stock alignment...
