More audio confusion GT4
I've been seeing references here that the standard GT4 audio system is the 235 watt system from the Cayman GTS, but the below is a direct quote from the official GT4 brochure posted here. Clearly it does not come with that system, but a 2x25 watt system.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
CDR audio system.
Fitted as standard, the CDR audio system
with 7-inch color screen is intuitive to
control. It features a CD radio with FM
twin tuner with RDS, 30*memory presets,
dynamic autostore and speed-sensitive
volume control. For quality sound, it
boasts four*loudspeakers and an
integrated amplifier with a power output
of 2*x*25*watts. The AUX interface in
the glove compartment enables you to
connect external sources such as a
compatible MP3 player.
CDR Plus audio system.
The CDR Plus audio system, with
nine loudspeakers and a total output of
235*watts, is available as an option. It
also features an analog and digital twin
tuner, an MP3-compatible CD/DVD drive,
a USB port and an AUX interface.
Porsche Communication Management
(PCM) including navigation module.
Optional PCM is your control center for
audio, communication and navigation
functions. Thanks to the high-resolution
7-inch touchscreen, it is intuitive to use
and includes a navigation module with
high-speed hard drive. An AUX interface
and a USB port for connecting suitable
external devices are provided in the glove
compartment. With this facility, you can
also transfer your music to the 40-GB
internal hard drive for storage and
playback.

Conflicting info indeed, here is that Porsche claims as standard equipment on the configurator:
CDR audio system with Sound Package Plus - 9 speakers and 235 Watt output, 7-inch color touch screen, AM/FM radio with double tuner, single in-dash CD drive, also plays music in MP3, AAC and WMA format

That's for sure. Here is the info when you build it on the web site. Copied directly.

I'm in the same boat. I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between these three options. I get that the first two don't include a navigation system, but what are the other tangible/meaningful differences?

I understand the distinction between the options, but I simply want to know what do you get if you order nothing?
I want no less than 235 watts and 9 speakers. It's not clear if that's base, or you need $1700 CDR+. Then honestly, I'd pony up up another $1200 to get nav ie PCM. MIght as well for $1200. Understand however, then you don't get sat radio, that's additional.
There is directly contradictory info stated on the web site. We need to clear this up somehow.

I've brought this up too. If you want navigation then you have to get the PCM with included CDR plus which the site is not clear about. BUT that doesn't include sat radio and hd radio, so you have to also add that option. That's what I did.

That same brochure says option 490, Sound Package Plus, is standard on the GT4. See page 55. So that would mean if you get the base system, you still get the 9 speakers and 235W as part of option code 490.
It is confusing. I guess we'll see what the cars have when they get here!

I think the sat radio being a different non-package item is to give people the option to have upgrade speakers without the roof wart, which some people really don't want. I appreciate that they did that.

I think the confusion stems from looking at the English language brochure/catalog list of options and not realizing that PCNA has specified that all GT4s that come to the US will have some options that cannot be deleted. PCNA did that with sunroofs on the 997 GT3, for example. So I think all GT4s in the US will get Bluetooth hands-free and the Sound Package Plus multi-speaker options.
We will know for sure when we can actually place an order, but for now I believe the US configurator is accurate for the US market.

Don't really care if it is 25x2 nor 235w. Already going to change the amps and speakers. The big loss is the USB port or lack of. Forcing you to pay $1800-3500 for that one port. I would sooner buy a top of the line CarPlay deck from Alpine or Pioneer
Given what i know, if you get the 9 speakers there are 8", 4" and 1" speakers in the doors and 4" in the rear. The centre channel is 3.5-4"
Focal, Morel and Hybrid Audio make some high end speakers in these sizes.
As for the amp any of the new D-class amps will be a huge improvement already. Even if you don't change the OEM speakers.
Audio upgrading isn't rocket science. Budget $3-5k and you will have a system far exceeding the burmester.
