Strange rattling / vibration sound sound
I'm hearing getting this strange vibrating / rattle sound from the rear of the engine. I can really hear it well in the drivers side wheel well. You can really hear it when I stick the phone in the wheel well at the 26 second mark in this video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/u4nYCZTYPdGn6SBZA
I'm hoping that some of you folks who spend more time working on these have heard this before and can help me narrow it down...anyone know what it is?
Thanks

That doesn't sound good, almost like a scored bore or piston knock. How many miles on it, where do you live, and where did the car spend its life so far - anywhere it's really cold in the winter?

Well, it only happens at idle around 600 rpm. Even in Sport mode when the idle is around 800, it goes away. It has 65k miles on it, I live in Northern VA where it does get cold in the winter, but I bought it with 57k miles. Before that, the original owner was in Miami.

I have the EXACT same drone, vibration.
your description is exactly the same as mine.
i have not however isolated it to the tire well area.
i will check that.
diid you ever get this fixed ?

It's actually the drivers side front wheel well. I think the sound is coming from the back of the engine somewhere in that corner. Still haven't figured out what it is. During my next oil change I am going to try and find it with the bottom engine cover removed.

I found this thread on the other forum, it sounds like this might just be a normal sound the Macan makes: https://www.macanforum.com/forum/com...oise-idle.html

Mid pipe exhaust bracket rattle
ent ago
I too had this intermittent rattle which was finally traced to rotted off small brackets that connect the two muffler pipes on top and bottom around mid point.
The Porsche wanted to replace the whole exhaust system out of warranty for thousands. A local muffler shop (Cosmos in Boynton Beach FLA for anyone around here) welded a replacement bracket/bar where the old rusted out one was for $100. No more rattles!

I had the vibration hunt syndrome also and got mine down to the rear bracket. As the other member said the front down pipe flex coupling could also be a culprit. I also had a knock from a poorly balanced or out of round drive shaft but that is unlikely to be your issue.
