120,000 miles and $1200 in repair bills. $800 for a wheel bearing and $400 for some oil leak somewhere. Overall reliable car.

Now I just changed the tensioner, pulleys and belt. And it was the most complicated routine maintenance I have ever done.

I have a garage of Toyota’s, Lexus’s, and Porsche’s (including a Macan Turbo). Neither brand has gone to the shop for non-maintenance repairs less or more than the others. I usually trade out of cars anywhere between 50,000-100,000 mls. With the exception of the tires on the 21” turbo wheels, the normal maintenance costs for each brand is pretty similar. The Toyota’s are the cheapest followed in a tie between a RX and a formally owned LX and my Porsche’s.

A Porsche as reliable as Toyota? You sure you don't own a Toyota with Porsche badges on it?

My Cayenne Turbo is nearing almost $20k in repairs and I haven't even hit 90k miles. Porsche makes a great driving car, but the quality of their vehicles is laughable at best.

My neighbor would love to trade you cars. So far his Macan has needed the timing cover fixed (leaking oil), 2 front differentials, a transfer case, and one control arm. Mileage is around 53k. I guess you don't become the most profitable car company in the world by building quality cars. In my opinion Porsches are now cars you lease, not own!

I'd like to know more about the reliability as my wife is DEAD SET on getting a Macan S.

We just bought a used 2016 Macan S last Friday with 40k miles and it had a transmission problem today, so we returned it. She was driving 8-10 mph in the parking lot when all of a sudden, "it lurched forward and would not shift back into 1st. It felt like a gear broke." (her words). She parked the car and then found the (2) following warnings when she turned the car off then on.

Transm. fault Poss. no R gear Drive on poss.
Engine control fault Consult a workshop Driving Permitted

It could be a small or a huge problem, however we decided to get our money back. Do you guys think this is a fluke or should we keep looking for another one?

I would have had them fix it and keep the car. You would have had the new transfer case that would be good to go forever. Go back and ask them for a better deal on your old car.

I agree with this plan. I am also assuming you got a warranty with the car?

Assuming it was indeed a TC issue, and not a more rare and serious PDK problem.

We opted out on the warranty and figured we should just get out. Our decision was heavily based off of reading about the PDK failure in the 2012 spyder (987/981 sub forum) being a $18k repair. The car was scratched and dinged up pretty good so I don't mind finding a better conditioned car.

We're looking for CPO cars from here on out.

Smart move. There’s plenty of them out there, no need to start your ownership experience with a potential problem/concern.

This is funny becuase I am literally going from my 2013 Lexus GS 350 with 95,000 miles to a 2015 Porsche Macan S with 46,000 miles. I CANNOT WAIT! I pick it up tomorrrow.

This began as an older post, but for the benefit of recent views, Porsche's recent campaign to provide a 7-year extended warranty on the 2018 and prior year's transfer case has proven to be a great thing for my 2018 Macan GTS. I think when it comes to the pre-2019 transfer case, it seems like it is not a question of "if", but "when". Glad to get a new transfer case.

I’m not familiar with this issue. What are the symptoms and does this apply to the Base model in addition to the S/GTS?

Do not own a Macan without a warrenty. Please! It is a great car, but in case you need repairs it is very expensive and all cars will need repair at some point. There are multiple extended warrenty's available. For example if the transmission needs replacing ( the trans has only limited repairiblity) it is over $20,000.
