Transfer case failure has been common in the 2018 and prior years Cayenne and Macan. No idea if the base 4 cylinder Macan uses the same model transfer case. If it did, I assume it would have also shown up on the Audi with the same 4 cylinder motor. It begins with a shuddering or slipping sensation, often in reverse gear with the wheels turned. Such as backing into a parking spot, or reverse parallel parking. Others experienced it when pulling forward. More noticeable when the transfer case is hot after highway driving. The problems result from inadequate fluid cooling and the absence of a fluid change requirement in Porsche's recommended service. Just a poor design by the manufacturer of the transfer case. 7 years extended warranty helps. Interestingly, Porsche won't recognize the frequent failures of the aluminum bolts shearing off at the timing cover. That's a very big job to repair. My guess is that the transfer case manufacturer is paying for the transfer case replacements, and Porsche is too cheap to do the same 7-year warranty on an even more stupid design of the bolts they used to assemble the motor.
