Holy cow. The thermal/noise insulated glass option is no joke.
One of the options I chose for my wife's 2020 Macan S is the thermal/noise insulated glass. Given that we opted for Burmester I thought it would be great to block out as much road noise as possible. Two things smacked me in the face after driving her Macan six hours home and immediately hopping in my 911:
1. Holy crap the road noise in my 911 is bonkers.
2. Holy crap my Bose stereo is awful compared to the Burmester stereo (though I knew this already).
I didn't realize just how crazy the noise insulation of the Macan was until a few days ago. I came to a stop at a stoplight. I was about the 5th car back. I had my stereo turned as low as it would go without pausing. In front of me I noticed an ambulance approaching the intersection from the opposite direction. I thought to myself that idiot driver is going to cause an accident by charging through the intersection with lights but no siren. As it started through the intersection and got closer I thought I might barely hear a siren. Then the ambulance passed by my window, and while I could hear the siren it was incredibly muted. I'd call it a whisper. Color me impressed.
That being said, if you have or are considering the noise insulated glass, be extra mindful of your periphery and mirrors. I could easily imagine not hearing emergency sirens regardless of the direction. Especially if music is playing.

We like it. Quiet and stays cool in the car. I have a 911 to be loud.

I don’t have the insulated glass, but would share that I find my Macan very quiet and a feature I appreciate (except when wanting to hear the exhaust note). I can imagine how quiet it must be with this option.

Had it on my Cayenne Turbo and IMO it was one of those "I'd never order it, but I"m glad I have it" options given the price (I think it was ~$1700 on the Cayenne). It did an amazing job keeping the car cool in the Vegas summer heat and the sound insulation was fantastic for the Burmester.

What option is that? I assume it's not the same as the heated windshield.
Speaking of which I 'm wondering (I should have before of course), but I'm wondering how strong that glass is, as living on gravel roads windshield chips and darn right rock impacts are not uncommon here. Since this is a sandwich glass with a thermal conductive liquid between I hope it's thick enough... trade off of course is thickness vs weight. Are folks happy with the heated windshield? Thoughts?

A stone crack in the standard windshield of my '18 GTS forced me to get it replaced. When I got the vehicle back, my Escort Max 360 could not find a GPS signal, and its sensitivity to K and KA band radar was severely reduced. My first clue to the source of the problem was the loud reports the detector gave me for radar behind me.
The windshield shop had given me the a premium thermal shield replacement. The thin metallic coating that blocks infrared (heat) energy does the same thing to microwaves.
This was a replacement done by a non-factory shop, so possibly the factory version avoids the problem. And if you have moved on to Waze, it's a moot point.
But its certainly a point worth knowing.
I decided a little heat in the car was less annoying than the heat hiding around the next bend, so I made a deal with the shop to replace the thermal windshield with a standard one.
That got my detector back to full function.

Hmm interesting. Here's an example a couple of years ago just outside Anchorage on the way to an SCCA Rally, a large truck in front of me kicked a nice size rock into my windshield. Still by Alaska standards, and since it's a VDub, no need to replace it (yet)
Don't really use Google or Apple Maps (or anything remotely Siri etc. like). But do occasionally use Waze

While I appreciate insulated glass, I don't think I would spec it.
I like the uses of my senses. I have five, I don't want to give up one of them.
Funny, I listen to the engine for driving, sense of speed.
I often stall the manual transmission car, when the stereo is too loud.
Yup. I shift my own car, I don't like electric steering. Whats next, the car will drive itself?

Fully with you, however when you have to spend 10 minutes in the "cold" scraping a window as Porsche does not deem it necessary to provide a remote start, it's not a nice to have where I live, it's a necessity - far ahead of Apple Car Play, Sirius etc.
Oh and yes, cars already drive themselves

It would be nice to have the solar radiation/infrared blocking properties though.

I'm sorry if I'm obtuse, but are we talking about the heated windshield or is this another option?

Thanx. Under what build code would this be (in case it's included in mine as part of several items)?
