Default Artificial Sound Generator

Anyone know if the 2022 Macan GTS pumps artificial sound into the cabin??

When accelerating, I notice a whining noise coming from the front and I cannot tell if this coming from the speakers or the engine induction.

The whining noise to me sounds fake.

I could be wrong but I think only the 4-cyl base engine comes w/ the Soundaktor.

I think the "soundakator" only is installed on the V6 models, I don't think my 4 cyl has it.

I think I read somewhere that the PSE's have this setup. glad I don't have a PSE in my macan -- in terms of noise level; straight pipe > all.

Yes, the PSE option on the Macan includes what Porsche calls a 'Sound Symposer', which is a low frequency sound generator attached to the bottom edge of the windshield. The function is to add additional cabin growl to the exhaust note.

My iCarsoft POR3.0 has an actuation test for the Sound Symposer, and it makes some interesting noises in the windshield area when activated in test mode.

That would be fun to play around with. Will give it a try.

Maybe it should be Soundactor?

I thought the Soundakter came with the Sport Chrono package. At least, it does with the 911.

Really, all it is is a Helmholtz resonator that ducts intake noise to the cabin, which I think is far better than mixing a soundtrack into the stereo speakers.

Totally different system than the soundaktor in the Macan. This one looks to be 100% electronic:

Artificial sound generation is a silly item that seems out-of-place from traditional Porsche engineering "style".

It is not artificial sound generation. It is sound amplification or transmission.

If you like more of an acoustic experience, what is not to like?

Semantics. It may not technically be artificial, but it's enhanced. It might as well be a soundtrack for a video game like GTA.

It is not semantics . . . it is like saying I like the sounds that come out of a radio but not the enhanced sound out of a stereo because it is artifical. No, the acoustics are enhanced.

No, some of the sounds are purely artificial......

A sound pipe from the engine compartment is fine, electronically generated fake sounds are lame......
My Audi SQ5 makes fake exhaust "fart" noises through the subwoofer of the audio system......it sounds good, but it is artificial.
