Default Radiator shutters/louvers

Hi,

How long are the radiator shutters/louvers supposed to stay open once you’ve parked? Thanks!

The Porsche DME algorithm of how the front louvers behave has long been a mystery.....

I had the same issue. Dealer charged like $1700 to replace the entire assembly - some folks have been successful just replacing the internal motor themselves for a couple hundred bucks

I would think temperature control provided by the shutters would be part of the emissions algorithm and if it failed to operate properly, it would set off an ECU error??

G01 BMW has a history of active shutters failing and triggering CEL. BMW has a warranty campaign for it including extended coverage for the shutters if I recall correctly. Would be nice if Porsche did the same. This is relatively new tech in the industry and it doesn’t differ substantially between brands.

I believe so. I had a one-off error on their operation and it bonged on the dash. Kept a message on the display until you hit the back button, but retained the message. Had it booked in to have it looked at and it fixed itself before the appointment. Weird and had the dealer check when it went in for a service later. Their assumption was that it got stuck on a bug or something and freaked out. The logic is supposed to work to keep it open if there is a problem - which isnt the most efficient and hence will impact the emissions.

Active radiator shutters are not really new-tech, the Porsche 928 had this back in 1977.

And, as far as emissions, the coolant thermostat and radiator fans are the primary factor in engine temperature control, the radiator shutters are more for better aerodynamics (when full radiator airflow is not needed), for a slight increase in fuel economy.

How does this information differ for the 997.2?

I have a C2S that I am about to install a 3rd radiator. It has a evomSit tune and cat back exhaust.

Thank you
