Default faulty oil level after oil change

2015 Macan S with recent oil change of 9 qts. of Mobil 1. After engine fully warm, oil level checked in dashboard oil gauge and indicated 2/3rds low. This level is staying the same 3 days later. This has happened before but not to this extent. My very experienced mechanic says he did put a full 9 quarts in.
Has anyone else noticed this as well? Not sure if I should add an additional 2/3rds quarts. Faulty gauge? Thoughts!

If you want to be certain, drop the oil into a pan and measure the total volume. If its near the 8/9 qts then the level gauge is bad.
I would not add any more oil until you or your mechanic do this.
Heard an ancedotal tail of a Mercedes owner in Santa Barbara who kept complaining of an oil level warning light on her new car. Kept returning to the dealer who kept adding a qt at a time until they hydro-locked the motor with too much oil. Don't you wish they would bring back the dipstick?

It might be worth verifying that there's not an oil tube (with a removable plug at the top of it) where you could install a dipstick. The Audi 3L V6 has this type of thing and others have purchased dipsticks for situations like this one.

Suggest you check oil level with the engine stone cold on level ground, thereby allowing all oil possible to navigate to the pan. Also possible that your mechanic was mistaken. FWIW, initially, I only fill with 8 qts., then check level after driving the requisite miles to get a reading on the "gauge".

It's not your gauge. Porsches can be finicky on oil service. 2/3's a qt down is nothing, that is within spec. Don't worry about it. Better to be slightly underfilled than overfilled.

Sorry to ask the obvious, but it is only your second post.
You do realize the oil level is not to be checked while the engine is running, but rather after is has been shut down for a minute?

Didn't think electronic oil gauge measured level when stone cold. I'll have to check mine.

Good point, i usually check mine just before i start the engine.

As with any car i check the oil a few times after a service; even more so as a few years ago i opened the bonnet to find the oil cap hadn't been put back. Luckily it was sitting on the engine.

In the users manual, oil level can only be measured if:

Vehicle is level
Engine is at operating temperature, and has been stopped for at least 1 minute

Otherwise the on board display will message "oil level cannot be measured..."

Tried mine after sitting overnight. Ign ON, seat belt fastened, level at 20C, engine not running. Got message "oil level information currently unavailable". Mine is 2022 GTS.

Was your engine running? Maybe EU cars are different?

Honest, folks...I don't drink and drive. Ours will show oil level when stone cold.

Don't doubt your observation. But yours is a 2015, right? So Porsche could have made changes in the oil level measurement software in the past 5 or six years. BTW, my 2017 991.2 was the same as my Macan 2022. Would not measure oil level unless hot.

I hate they removed the dip-stick. Our '17 GTS is always finicky getting the oil level to read. I drive it to get it warm, park it in our garage and wait a couple minutes. Typically, have to try to get a reading 5 or 6 times before it will read. I follow the instruction to the letter...
