MACAN GTS (bose versus burmester)
I miss the days of being able to go to the dealership and see dozens of vehicles to pick from.
With that being said, has anyone done a serious comparison about the Bose v Burmester?
It's a $5000 price difference.
I have the Burmester in my TTS, (i did not build the car), and probably would not order it again.
I know the platforms are different, with much more cabin space for speakers, etc. Should i expect to be blown away by the sound quality of the Burmester in a Macan?
thoughts please.
cheers,
NAV

When I traded my MB GLE Coupe AMG for the Macan in 2020, it had the upgraded Burmester in it and I was really disappointed in the sound. It was terrible in fact and was one of the reasons I got rid of the MB. One of the 2 Macans I was looking at the dealer had the Burmester in it. I was not interested in the Macan that came with it but I liked the color combination better on the Macan S I was trying to decide on. Ended up with the S with the Burmester in it and was impressed with the sound compared with the one in the MB and the Bose in the other Macan. It is a noticeable difference but 5k worth? Dunno. I just configured my 24 Macan GTS and included the Burmester on my build. Turned it in to the dealer last week and its supposed to be here this summer. Yes I liked it that much. Pushed my build to over 105k.

you really want good audio - buy the bose, then properly swap all the components out with a proper DSP and amplifier. throw out the speakers and use the optical cables.
car manufacture audio systems are all lack luster, so don't over spend. save the money and buy something better aftermarket.

I have the Bose system in my S and its OK. I wouldn't say it was good, but it came with the technology package. I had the Burmester system in my C63S, but its well known that its not really a Burmester system at all - more like a Mercedes system with a different badge on the speakers. It came with the car, and again I wouldn't rate it as good. I hope that the Macan Burmester system is better, but feedback from other owners here suggests that its not great.
I guess if you can afford it, it will be better than the Bose system. But there might be better options for the 5k.
Now, the Mark Levinson system that I had in my old Lexus, now that was a system!

It is not worth the cost. The BOSE isn't great but it's better than the base system and at $900 is worth it IMO. The nice thing about the BOSE is you can easily replace the amp and speakers vs the base setup requires a lot more work and cost to install an amp and sub from what I understand.

I always question the opinion of "audiophiles" who think they can hear a material difference in audio quality with road, engine and exhaust noise while playing Spotify over Bluetooth. Premium audio in an EV, however, seems like you'll get more from your sound system under actual driving conditions.

I have a 2022 GTS with Bose package that I thought sounded fine until today. I dropped my car for some minor service and was given a 2023 S with Burmester option. I thought the sound difference was night and day. I felt far more immersed in the sound and immediately went to check the sound settings. The fader was -3 towards the back and the bass and treble were both at +2. Not sure if that is standard set up but considering it's a loaner car I assumed it was basic setting. Regardless I was impressed with the sound quality difference. That said I am not sure I can justify a $5K increase when I prefer to listen to Sport exhaust.

I inherited a Burmeister sound system with our 2018 GTS lasyt year, but to be honest, I don't play it that much. And like "funati", I prefer to listen to the engine note.
So is it worth the money? Hmmm... How about option a BOSE ("Buy Other Sound Enterainment")? No way. I'd go with the base system and maybe work on some after market tweaks.
