Anyone switched from a 911 to Macan?
Guys, anyone here have gone from "daily 911" to "daily Macan"? Any thoughts, how did that go? Regrets? Im asking the practical ones here.
So Im thinking 997.2 PDK C2 out, Macan in. Financially it probably is a dumb move because 997 holds value, Macan does not. But that aside, you who switched, what were the clear positives? Which Macan also, Gen 1 or Gen 2? I am liking Gen 1 design more, but aware of improvements to Gen 2 . So Gen 1 Turbo Macan or Gen 2 Macan S is what Im thinking about.

Yeah, the 997s have seen the worst of their depreciation already, so you'll get hosed trading one for any new car. Can you possibly keep both?
Seems like a LOT of bugs got fixed in Gen2. If in the market for a used Macan, I personally wouldn't consider a Gen1 car at this point. But it's all about your preferences and risk tolerance.

I moved from a 991.1 GTS as my daily driver to a gen 1 Macan S. Kept the 911 mind you so had the best of both worlds.
Clearly very different vehicles with a different reason for being... Macan was more comfortable with more space + utility for hauling gear, kid, pets, etc. Fun to drive as well (especially with a tune) but not remotely on the same level as the 911. I truly enjoyed daily driving the 911 (almost 4 years) but the Macan felt like more of a natural choice for a daily.
Ended up moving from the 911 to a 991.1 RS which upped the difference between the two to the maximum. Macan S has since been replaced by a new Macan GTS and it is even better than the old one.

I kept 991.2 GTS and got slow but fun Macan T as daily.
After driving Macan T for a while, I was surprised how well Macan T handles and I really didn't drive 911.
So I was tempted selling 911 and getting Macan GTS but I was sure I'll miss 911 so I didn't do it. If you can, just buy inexpensive Macan so you can keep best of both world.

Had a 2014 911S Cabrio and traded it for a 2022 Macan S. Reason: at 68 years old, getting in and out of the 911 half a dozen times a day as a daily driver was just too much on my knees and back. If I had a 3-car garage or a convenient place nearby to store a weekend fun car, I would have kept the 911 for that. But I don't. So off it went. The Macan S has enough power and handling to satisfy 90% of the time and is a MUCH easier daily driver to live with. But I miss having the cabrio in the late spring/summer/early fall and the "sharpness" of the 911's handling, the sound of the exhaust, and the responsiveness of its naturally-aspirated flat-six. It was a complete kick to drive, but just not practical for me as a daily driver.
For daily use, get a Macan (S or GTS). For weekend driving fun, get a 911 (or a Boxter/Cayman). If you're over 65 and want to use a 911 as a daily driver, get large bottles of ibruprofen at Costco.

Almost.
Dealer's lowball trade in offer kept the 911 in my stable. Still love it, but for road trips with Wife, Macan.

I kept my 991 C2S after buying a Macan S -now replaced by a 2018 Macan Turbo. The 991 as a result has acquired a sense of "occasion" any and every time I want it.
Macans are deceptive. They have that "occasion" sense if you put your foot down. The Turbo, with air suspension, has dual personalities. It is can be silky smooth, quiet and calm or manic and as competent as the 911 (so long as you respect its weight).
If forced to have only one, I'd keep the Macan Turbo. I have owned Porsches since 1973 and am close to 80, so there's that too.

I'm on my second Macan S since 2015 and will say that it is the best daily driver that I have owned that works all year round for me (I'm in Canada). I know that I "could" drive a 911 all year, but I also know that I would hate putting a 911 through all that salt, ice and slush. For me, the perfect combo is a 911 for Summer weekends and a Macan daily. If I could only have one, I'd go for the Macan.

If it's an actual replacement you'll be left disappointed in the driving characteristics. It's hard to replicate a 911 driving experience with anything let alone with a vehicle that is either an SUV or a large hatchback. The Macan we'll drive better than most SUVs or hatchbacks, so in a vacuum it's fantastic. But when held up against a 911, I would miss the 911 driving characteristics. Of course the Macan can hold a lot more, handle deep snow better, and hold more people. So there's a definitive trade-off either way.
So yeah, need to have both!

I had a stage 2 tuned 991.2 GTS. I currently own a ‘22 Macan GTS that my wife mostly drives. I personally wouldn’t get anything less than the Macan GTS or previous gen Turbo mainly because I have a lead foot. That’s just me. Plenty of people are happy with a base. The Macan GTS/Turbo, IMHO, is the best performing small SUV out there. The X3M is faster in a straight line but the Macan has the whole package. To me, the latest gen Macan GTS drives as close to a 911 than any SUV in existence. JMHO. I have a “fun car” and so I don’t miss the 991.2 GTS but the Macan can keep you happy. When I get rid of my current DD, I’ll be taking back my Macan GTS as my DD.

To answer your question, I had a 991.2 c2s 7M for 3 years as a dd. It was arguably the best drivers car I have ever owned (and I have owned a bunch). I switched to a Macan GTS due to chronic back and ingress/egress issues I have with a low slung coupe. I never tried to compare the two due to obvious reasons. I absolutely enjoy driving the Macan in GTS form. I would guess that other Macan variants would not be as rewarding. When I compare the Macan to other vehicles in its class, it really stands out.

Having had my 997.2 GT3RS for many years and am not likely to ever sell it, I purchased a 2020 Macan Turbo for my wife, but after driving hers a ton, I bought myself a 2023 Macan GTS. It's Python Green of course which for me adds that little bit of amazingness. Having both the 911 and Macan is a perfect balance. Do both if you can.

A friend of mine has owned a string of new 911 Turbos, and has a 911R and a Ferrari 458, and he can't stop talking about the Macan GTS he just got. He says the GTS feels like his 911's in performance but a lot more comfortable. He's not parting with any 911's, but he sees his Macan GTS as an "equal" in driving fun, while being more comfortable and more practical.
I think that "equal to 911" feeling is limited to the the GTS model. I've driven several S's and own a Macan Base -- both are great cars to drive, but I can't really say they feel like a 911 to me. The Macan Base actually feels a bit more responsive than the S in everyday driving, but the S is faster when you put your foot in it and rev it out (still doesn't feel like a 911 to me).
