GLA 45 AMG?
Was @ Benz dealer getting wife's car cleaned & saw one of these on floor. Anyone test drive a GLA 45 AMG? Thoughts? Comparison to Macan S?

The base GLA 250 at $33K and 3384 lbs kinda got my attention on their web site.

Engine on 250 seems similar to what my wife has in her SLK. Curb weight about 200 lighter for her roadster, if I am recalling correctly. Thanks. Interesting!...T

Just spent a couple hours building a GLA250 on their site. By the time I add the options/packages we need/want, I am at the same $48K as the base GLA45 AMG which includes those options, and the base Macan S.

I did similar exercise on Porsche & MB sites & my recollection was that adding what I wanted to GLA 45 AMG & Porsche Macan S, diff was ca. 10 K. Got more aggressive adding goodies to Benz since it was base priced lower. :-) ...T

Performance numbers should be similar to the CLA45 AMG, which are very impressive given the size of the engine:

23/31 mpg is also very impressive for a car that does 0-60 in the low 4's.
My biggest complaint with these cars (including the C63 and E63) is the lack of shifter.

amelen...Good point. Wife will want a CUV at least when her pickup gives up the ghost, but CLA 45 AMG should provide reasonable ref point for planning, until more GLA info starts to roll in...T

Just got back from dealer- closed for Sunday and maybe just as well - where they had four 250 and one 45 AMG.
Wife said, "it's a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and a whole bunch of nothing."
We don't really need an SUV or crossover, just something with really good seats for the occasional drive to FL, 11 hours each way in a day.
Would be replacing a long in tooth '07 55K mile Lexus IS 350 with mediocre seats.
So for now it's the TT again next drive to FL.

I saw two 45 AMG versions, one silver and one designo mountain gray, as they were being delivered to the dealer and thought they looked pretty cool and far from ugly (a term reserved for the X4 in this category) but definitely smaller than I expected. The mountain gray with painted black wheels was particularly nice looking. Unfortunately both had the huge rear spoiler that ruined the look for me as it was out of proportion to the car. The pricing put these AMG versions directly in competition with a well optioned Macan S and I would take the Macan everyday when at the same price.

Saw one w/ wing. Agree. It looks teen racer-ish. But, has anyone had butt time in driver's seat of AMG? My wife's SLK-250 is peppy & has similar engine & if I am reading correctly Cars.com, not much weight diff. I can live with iffy looks, but not iffy performance...T

my wife calls it the "Mercedes Slug" ...... speaks volume in terms of styling.
I guess it does kinda look like a slug or at least a CLS that was put in the mircowave and melted...
*EDIT* I meant this towards the CLA and not the GLA...

Made the mistake of buying one Mercedes in my life (E Class) and my wife was disgusted with me and made me promise to never buy another Mercedes again. Sold it within a year and never will set foot in a Mercedes dealer again. Hate to admit it, but she was right.

Mercedes Slug...Ouch!
Rolltide86...what did the missus hate abt the Benz? Unreliable? Quality? Something else? Only been a year, but the wife's SLK has been rock solid, but have to admit the C class loaner we got when it had its annual service seemed kind of cheesy for a Benz...T
