Thanks for letting me know that I'll need a puller to remove the shocks. The bumper was really pushed in (especially on one side) so I'm confident that at least one needs replacing. I bought 2 in case I need both. I'm past the point of no return now on this job.
I would caution on shimming your bumper, but you are the best judge of that. Just don't compromise your safety, especially on a low profile car with no third brake light!
