Dr Bob, I could not help but message you when I read you don't like to drive your cars in the rain...on purpose! I have several toys...and I don't like to drive them in the rain either. When people ask why I don't drive them in the rain, I tell them... THEY CAN'T SWIM!

This is my first Porsche. 1985 928 bought for 1k after being in drug impound and left for nearly 10 years. I have just completed an intake refresh to include powder coating of Cam covers and intake. Also serviced the Auto transmission, rebuilt both rear axles, new park brake shoes and rear pads. I've owned many late 70s and early 80s VW's, Audi's and BMW's. I find many similarities because of the different Bosch injection. This 928 has not been treated kindly. I am amazed at the condition of the car underneath, very good. The paint is horrible! My kids tell me I like to polish Turds.....one project at a time! If I ever get paint on this one it will get wiped off and dusted a lot.

Nice post on Greg's alternator page about the grounding issue. Thank you for trying. I agree completely that's why they added little ground straps from coil to head on the later cars... that's just good engineering.

Hi Dr Bob Have got a dead car after working on it.
Removed injectors, replaced seals and tips, checked ohms and spray patterns.
Removed the air flow boxes (86.5 ) to clean the Throttle Body spring. Undid the 3 prong plug to the Sensor (I guess) that sits on top of the forward bell housing around torque tube connection. Just the three pins remained connected to the wire harness side.
Ordered a new plastic housing. Thought I got them back in right. Now unsure.
No spark now just cranks. Checked with a timing light. No life. Gas is in rails.
Guess this 3 wire connection monitors shaft rotation? Connectors on the harness side. 9.1 v. 9.2 v, and 9.3 v. ignition on. Other side contacts are open no ohms to ground. Between # 1 and #2 about 950 ohms. Between 3 and other leads open. Not sure what it does. Anything tricky about the injector or fuel delivery that would stop the ingition.
Any ideas? Will start checking fuses tomorrow.
    Cheers, Steve in Carlsbad

    Dr bob
with regards to your post today about alignment.Hope you maybe able to help.
what years did the arms change..i am having big problems getting front driver side to aligne and it seems like the upper arm is pushing the top of the wheel out almost as if the arm is to long, now thinking could be the wrong year arm was installed in the past. (1985 us auto )

    Dr. Bob,

I noticed that you are an avid 928 fan in SoCal... Would you happen to know anything about the 1981 928 for sale on ebay right now? Item number 120683440343?? The car looks awesome, but as with purchasing anything on ebay, i'm trying to get all the info before committing myself. Thanks.

    Jim-

That was referring to RyanP's S4 for sale, a car I had not seen but had heard of. Ryan was having trouble with smog and some other stuff, and wanted to sell the car to an out-of-Cali buyer to avoid having to get it to pass.

Two previous Ryan cars had been in my garage for various things, and that was the reference to Kevin in the second post.
