This is from the shop that services my car:

We have been using Swepco 201 in every one's gearbox. The reason was twofold. First, the Swepco 201 gear lub has a great track record being used in racing conditions for years with no lub related gear or syncro failures.
Second, even though it seems to be a little pricey compared to the next step up, it really isn't.In a gearbox refill the price is only about $40.00 more for the LE gear oil.

Today I had a fairly long discussion with Matt over at Guard.
They suggest moving to a synthetic gear lub for all the later 996 style Porsche transmissions. The best gear lube on the market is made by Lubrication Engineers and sell for about $100 per gallon. I have about 4 or 5 of you that could use this better gear oil. Unfortunately, we need to buy it in 120 lb. containers.
