I wouldn't stress too much about the INT plate. the pressure plate and flywheel and contamination levels of the discs are Much more important as far as factors of the function of the clutch. ive put together clutches with int plates that looked like the WORST ive ever seen, with grooves and hot spots and it worked perfectly (in the 928 79 race/street car we put together). the MAIN element for risk on the INT plate function , is the "H" adjusters. do you have a picture of the INT plate in question? any reduction of the thickness will reduce your pressure plate gripping power. so, for that reason I would not do any surface adjustment sans a light burnishing of the surface.
