Hi Steve, I just went out and looked at my old dash support. There are two studs on the support, that are located beneath the brake pedal assembly. They go through the floor and you will need to remove the two nuts on the underside of your driver's floor pan, directly below the brake pedal. It is the same assembly that the steering column bolt went through. You are brave to do this with the doors still on the car. I took pictures of the two bolts, if you need them, let me know. The biggest improvement that I made to the interior was having the instrument cover done in leather and replacing the airbag cover with a leather one. An aftermarket stereo was also a big improvement and helped me avoid compatability isssues with the new harness. Good luck, Mark.
Mark, yes I am referring to the main steel dash support which spans the width of the car. I have removed the 4 bolts ( 2 either end) at the ends of the support ( bitch with doors attached!) and 2 bolts at the top of the support close byt he windscreen. Also disconnected top of steering column bolt. Pretty loose at passenger side but there must be other bolts somewhere! Would really appreciate it if you can let me know where else there are bolt holes if its not too much trouble!! regards
Hi, I have a 99 996 with a burnt out dashboard and wiring etc. Your thread on your repair has helped me a lot!! I have removed dash and trying to remove horizontal dash support. I am stuck ! Cannot see where it is attached. Removed 4 bolts ( 2 either side) at ends of support. Also 2 vertical bolts either side of support attaching support to front of car. Also removed bolt holding support to steering column. Passenger side feels loose, but drivers side pretty solid. Are there bolts at bottom anywhere ( near pedals??). Your help would be appreciated!! Steve
