Andre, if you can get to the spark plugs without removing the side plenums, please let me know how!

    Hugs

Hi Scott, it looks like that in the WSM they mention that there is no need to remove the plenums to get to the spark plugs, Cool !

I will check the WSM, but If I remove the plenums, would be a good idea to change the gaskets for the plenums, correct ?

Thank you Scott. Mine is an 85 but I'm sure it's the same. By removing just the plenums (still getting used to all these weird names for parts) as you say, I should be able to change the wires ?

Andre- if you have an '85 or '86 (if I recall, you have an '86) you have to remove the side plenums, which look like rectangles and have Porsche 32V on them. This is not difficult, but annoying.

Thanks Scott. Mine are not leaking, but I will require new spark plug wires soon, not looking forward to it !
Can you access the spark plug wires without removing the intake ?

    Hi Andre,

Thank you for your kind words.

I had oil leaks on the cam covers, oil leaks on the intake runners, and needed new spark plug wires. I figured it was time to do an overhaul.

Yes, the TB/WP is a lot easier. But I think the intake refresh is more satisfying.

Hi Scott, I just finished reading your posts about the intake refresh and I want to tell you GREAT job, nice and clean. What brought this intake refresh on, dirty, or problems and if problems what were the symptoms ?

I was thinking about possibly doing a top end refresh, but after seeing what you went through I preferred doing my TB/WP and tensioner job to what you went through !

    Again excellent work.

Hello, since you have already done the TB/WP on your 86.5, I was wondering if you could answer a couple questions for me. On your 86.5 did you have an air pump ? Do you know if the 85 has one ? I am a newbie to the group and mechanics and will be trying my luck at changing the TB/WP and PKensioner on mine and it seems very intimidating.
