Yeah, once you get a certain number of regular post you'll be able to private message. Much better than doing it this way.
One last thought, I have a street alignment so not much camber which might play into my tire hitting the fender lip.
Hi Sanyata,
Thank you very much for getting back to me. I still haven't got the full hang as to how messages are dealt with on this site so apologies for the delay in responding to you. V. interesting your experience with the rubbing on the wheel well lip - its a new one on me but its good to know that it can happen so that one can keep an eye out - appreciate the tip-off. I suppose not having the suspension set too low might mitigates the situation too. My front fender lips are rolled similarly to what you describe, but with mine it doesn't look particularly consistent - I suspect now that you mention, maybe the previous owner extended the roll as you have done to alleviate some rubbing - I learn something new every day. All things considered, I might just go ahead with the 245/40's as per your setup. And I concur with your Michelin choice - great tyre. I'll keep you posted as to how I get on. Hope it goes well with your projects on your car and thanks again.
Your 245 with 8.5 et47 (52 minus 5) should work without hitting the fender but not sue about the liner. You might get away with a bigger spacer. I don't know if our front geometries are the same. Also the brand of tires play into it as they aren't sized the same even if the claimed size is the same. I;m going to get so PS4S next time as the PS2 no longer available. The PS4 thread is 6mm less thread with which should be perfect for my set up. YMMV
Hi Speedy, I'm currently on oem GT2 rims. The front is 8.5 et40. I have 245/40 PS2's on them. The outside corner of the tires have been getting some minor cuts on them from the wheel well lip when bottoming out and there is no rubbing on the liner. I don't know about your car but my TT has the upper portion of the wheel well rolled up from the factory. I'd say from about the 10:00 to 2:00 position. The point where the rolling in the back eases back to a normal lip is where it was hitting. Again it was/is very minor. I currently have the car in the air and have rolled the fender lip a little further down to 3:00 and hope that eliminates the scrapping. I'll know later once I finish my projects on the car and drive it again.
Hello from over the pond ...
Apols for direct approach but may I possibly get some insights from you pls?
I've a '99 996 C4 with c/ovrs and am looking for some 18" GT3 style rims in 8,5J ET52 and 10J ET54. As its a C4 I'm very conscious of the sizes and i initially came up with 235/40 F + 10spcr and 275/35 R +7spcr or maybe even a 245/40 F +
5spcr and 285/35 R + 5spcr. My main preoccupation after protecting the diff/vc is with the front and ensuring that the combo fills the wheel arch (not a fan of sunken look) while not rubbing the liner.
I understand that you run, or have run the 245/40 combo on a 996TT and may have some pointers?
I don't track my car. My main considerations over stock is improved comfort through a) tire wall height+, b) +rubber protect rim, and (c) improved aesthetics
Any insights would be most appreciated.
..And I'm sure you've heard this before, but great avatar - very sad scenario but fab photo!
Thanks, and all the best
Peter
