I agree

I'd totally buy that silver artists rendering. That's a beautiful truck.

Musk states Tesla has received 200,000 pre-orders which is way more than I thought they would get.

Musk/Tesla have almost achieved cult status IMHO.

should've posted it this weekend but got busy - the guy who designed the Halo vehicle said in a tweet it is virtually identical in looks to the wireframe of the Halo combat vehicle (name escapes me at the moment, razorback maybe? I never played it). Had links .graphic showing the Halo wireframes

Might make a decent deep woods vehicle . . . quiet and easy to clean.

I agree. Very Porsche-like with their dedicated following, but very, very different at the same time.

The one thing that Tesla may have tapped into really nicely - men buy trucks. Men buy trucks in part because of the manly image that comes with them. This new Tesla reaches in and grabs that primitive drive at it's very core. That's who is going to buy this truck. The buyers aren't buying this vehicle because they want to be liked. The buyers want to express their manhood (a bit like the Mercedes GT). And I think there's a fair amount of demand for that. But I also think once those who want one have one, sales will slow down (and Tesla will release the second body type of the same vehicle).

There's a video out there with a VW Toureq pulling back a F-250 Super Duty 4x4.

I remember when that came out. I had an '05 F250 Powerstroke at the time and looked up the torque figures for each--570 on the pickup, 553 on the VW. Not too shabby...

An acquaintance is selling a pretty heavily modded Touareg V10 right now. I've always wanted one but you know it would be a huge PITA to keep around.

I was impressed by how many pre-orders Tesla got for something that ugly so I went to the website to spec one out and found this nugget:

DUE TODAY
$100
Fully refundable. You will be able to complete your configuration as production nears in late 2021. Tri Motor AWD production is expected to begin in late 2022.

So the way I'm reading that the hundreds of thousands of pre-orders are non-binding $100 bills. Feels a bit like a pyramid scheme. I might put $500 down on 5 and see if they get me somewhere, lol. All I could lose is interest, right?

Preface this by stating that I'm not a Tesla fan. I think this truck is going to sell successfully based on its features, not its looks.

I don't like the way this truck looks. And I don't particularly enjoy listening to Elon speak and when he does I find myself disagreeing with a lot that he has to say. However, Tesla is an American company that employees Americans to design, engineer, test and manufacture cutting edge all-electric vehicles that to date have been essentially unchallenged in the market place by all the other huge car companies, domestic and foreign. I think that's pretty cool and though I have no desire to own a Tesla, as an American I do root for them to be successful.

Didn't they already say that they can't make those shapes/flares/curves with the material they are using to build the truck? The ugly *** look is the result of a materials choice.
