Default Mazda 3 forum?

Just bought a running 06' mazda 3 2.0 for 100$.. needs a rob bearing (a whopping 40$ from rockauto) and otherwise is in perfect running order. Looking for "active" forums but having hard luck. anyone care to chime in?

Thanks,
ian

Here are 2 that I used to look at.

http://krystmsgarage.com/

Neither is as active as Rennlist, but I learned a few things. grounding the throttle body seems to be one of the easier mods, although its effectiveness is debated. I did it and honestly do not notice anything. The Mazda 3 is a fun little car though. Needs to be pushed a bit.

Kika, thanks theres a couple there I haven't seen before. And yeah, specially with the 2.0 it needs to be wound out. I was just trying to figure out if the 2.0 has balance shafts which from what I can find, it does not. So that will make doing the bearings that much easier.

Voith. I agree! ironically it is the newest car I have ever owned hahah

mazda 3s are great cars, ive driven both generations quite a bit and am always impressed. nice car for the price. the current one is a hoot to drive, and ive left plenty of tiremarks with a 1st-gen wagon. stickshift is nice feeling, manumatic is nice too. 2.0L revs to 7400

only $100? **** i'll buy one if they're that cheap...maybe 2

Speed Triple....yummy.

That should help you save some gas $$$ once you freshen it up.

you said "rob" bearing.. do you mean rod bearing? if so, the faulty rod bearing could have eaten into the crank which would require milling of the crank and oversized rod bearings or replacement of the rod bearings and crank as a pair. either way, you got one heck of a deal. a guy at work is looking for a Mazda 3 for his son. i'm sure he wishes an out of this world deal like the one you got will pop up.

Yup, I was thinkng the same thing. Most times a rod noise is a spun bearing. If this is the case, the crank and connecting rods will have material deposited on it and the engine will have to be rebuilt. Most of the time, it's cheaper to get a good used engine and just prelace it, then to try to re surface the crank and the rod/s. The price is chepa enough that you cna do this but unless you are really lucky, the engine will need major work or replacement.
