Default Has anyone had their car damaged from the tow truck Porsche roadside assistance sent?

Took my 2018 4s to get the front tires changed at America’s Tire. I have gone there and had a couple tires changed because they have a great road hazard warranty where they give you a brand new tire if the tire is not repairable. So I take the car in and I put it in jack mode before I give the keys to them to work on.

After about an hour they are done, just had the 2 fronts replaced. The tech backs the car out and the rear fender well is like 2 ft higher than the tire, the front was fine but the back air bags were super inflated. I am not sure what happened with the jack mode function. I get in and cycle the car through the different heights hoping it would reset but nothing works. So I call my service advisor at the dealer and he says call roadside assistance and have it towed in.

So I call in and they say they will send a flatbed out to tow my car to the dealership. The tow truck gets there and he asks me to load my car because he doesn’t want to mess anything up, so I put it on the bed and get out. I walked away while the driver was securing the car and when I come back instead of the rear being high the whole car is slammed. I mention to the driver did the back go down and he says he thinks so. He tells me he didn’t torque the tie downs to much and the front straps are what is holding the car down. Then he proceeds to take the car to the dealership and drop it off, which was last week.

Yesterday my advisor called me and said that it looks like I have aftermarket sensors and they can’t get the suspension to calibrate. I told him I have different links but the sensors are factory ones and to ask his tech again. He confirms that I was right and says they can’t calibrate because of the links and ask me if I can bring the factory links in which I did.

This afternoon he calls me and says they put the factory links in and we’re able to calibrate it but the air leaked out of the rear after a couple hours. They took the car apart, inspected the rear bags, and found out one bag is ripped and the other one is throwing an internal fault that it won’t hold air. He said that warranty said they would not cover it because of the damage. I explained to him that it was holding air before the tow truck driver took it and I am not sure how the tow truck driver got it down. I have have a feeling when he strapped the car down he put the straps in the wrong place and forced it down which blew out the bags. My service advisor told me to call Porsche since the tow truck was from roadside assistance and explain what happened. I called in and explained everything and they opened a case for me.

My question is has anyone had their car damaged by roadside assistance before and what happened did Porsche cover it. The dealer is telling me it’s 6500 for parts and labor for 2 rear air bags.

Ok , you put car in jack mode then parked it . When restarted it was out of jack mode and not put back into proper mode before lifting .

New tires get put on and car tried to adjust to the position causing over correction of suspension .

I feel like just driving away may have helped correct the situation?

Then you revel you had the suspension modified, knowing that I would be very cautious of service providers be capable of dealing with the situation ?

Then you help load the car onto a ramp truck and let the driver tie down the car without alerting him to the issue at hand ?

Now you think its Porsches fault , really ?

Sorry but this falls into the " No one screws you like yourself " category .

Actually I did try to drive it around parking lot to see if it would reset and it wouldn’t so I called my service advisor and explained the situation, he told me to call Porsche Roadside assistance to have it towed to the dealership for them to inspect. I called Roadside explained the situation and they sent a flatbed out. I told the driver what happened and showed him what was wrong. After I put it on the flatbed I walked away to talk to my wife who came to pick me up. When I came back he had already strapped the car down and the rear was completely down. I asked him if it had gone down itself and he responded by saying I don’t know but I didn’t torque the straps down to much in the rear. I didn’t think the air was released by itself but knowing now both rear air bags blew out the only explanation I can think of is where he placed the tie downs when he started tightening the straps the air bags blew because there was no where for the air to go.

I am not saying it’s Porsche’s fault I am saying it was probably the tow truck drivers fault and do they cover something like this because it was a tow truck service they provided. You would think they send drivers out that know how to handle the situation.

Thanks for your jackass remark though, I never understand why people on the these boards comment on things when they have no actual helpful information.

I don't think roadside is actually always a Porsche specialist , more like a triple A ramp service . Modifying the suspension is not something that won't have repercussions in a tricky situation.

If you think we don't screw ourselves, you are the jackass .

I can trace most problems I have back to myself , also makes life much easier .

Good luck with the repair !
