Help with purchase decision - Panamera vs Cayenne
Ok, so I know these are altogether different vehicles and I’m in the Panamera forum so may get biased responses, but I figured I’d ask if anyone went through a similar decision.
I’m looking at a 2017 Panamera Turbo and a 2014 Cayenne Turbo S. Both have similar options and are pretty well loaded, though the Panamera has the plus of rear axle steering which seems to be tough to find. Both are high mileage cars at about 90K each, but condition appears to be excellent and they each have extensive service histories with limited issues. Panamera is a dealer sale and is CPO’d for 2 years / unlimited miles, Cayenne is private party and has 1 year left of transferable CPO coverage. The Panamera is roughly $15K more than the Cayenne.
I’ve always been a sports coupe/sedan kind of guy, have had a number of Audi S cars as daily drivers to go along with my weekend/track 968. Currently driving a 2007 S8 with the V10. I’m leaning towards the Panamera.
Anyone have experience with both of these cars to help me with the pros and cons of each? Thanks in advance!
Edit: I’ve driven both, and they are each amazing in what they do for their intended use. Panamera is newer tech but that usually comes with more expensive problems. Decisions, decisions…

I have a 2014 PGTS and a 2022 Cayenne GTS. The biggest difference (ignoring the engines ) is the handling. The Cayenne has amazing handling for an SUV but the Panamera is about 700 pounds lighter and combined with a lower stance its cornering limits are significantly higher. The Panamera is just sportier. Also the PDK is sportier than the ZF transmission. I love the Cayenne but I’m glad the Panamera wasn’t traded. They are just too different.

The Cayenne is much stiffer sprung in order to handle cargo and towed trailers. Therefore not as refined as the Panamera.
have you considered the Sport Turismo, hybrids the two for functionality

So I had a 2013 cayenne turbo, and now I’ve got a 2014 Panamera turbo. Personally I like the pdk in the Panamera much better. It handles better, and just feels sportier as was mentioned above. The cayenne was much more practical. It was a phenomenal suv but still an suv. I still miss it dearly, except when I’m in the ptt.

Porsche changed PCM interface in all 2017 models. You get reverse camera and Apple car play. May consider a newer Cayenne Turbo.

When shopping a few months ago we considered both the Panamera and the Cayenne. We have zero interest in any off road ability but did want AWD. We chose a Panny Sport Turismo. So much more comfortable and better ride. Really a wonderful car.

Went through a similar analysis and went with the Panamera. There is no getting around physics. Everything else being equal (roughly the case here), a lighter, lower profile car will out handle a heavier, higher profile car. LOVE the Panamera so far. Caveat, significantly less storage.

Thanks for all of the input and advice. Definitely a tough decision despite (or maybe because) it’s an apples and oranges comparison.
Being a sedan guy, I really didn’t think I was going to like the Cayenne as much as I did, and finding a super clean well optioned Turbo S is not easy.
That said the newer tech in the 2017 Panamera is a huge plus, in addition to the driving dynamics.
A Sport Turismo is a very interesting idea, one I hadn’t considered. May need to research what’s available

I've owned both and I would only pick the Cayenne if you want a higher riding car or need the extra storage space. The Panamera is more planted and drives better so it's a better driving experience but is less practical in terms of how much cargo it can hold and the back seats.

I own both, Panamera is a sports car, Cayenne is a SUV more space.
Interesting fact is if used as a daily the Cayenne is much easier to park, Panamera is wider and longer but the main difference is the fact that you sit lower in the Panamera and can't see the corners.
If you have surround camera that will equalize it.
Both excellent vehicles.

We have both, and while they're older than what you're considering, I can echo the other opinions offered so far. I prefer my Panamera because I like how it handles and I prefer to sit lower. My wife prefers our Cayenne because she likes to sit higher. The Cayenne is easier to park because it is shorter. It also has more usable cargo space. Both are great for what they are and you can't really go wrong with either, if you have to pick one over the other. We've taken cross country road trips in both. If you put a premium on utility, go for the Cayenne. If you really want to feel like you're sitting in a sports car, get the Panny. If you can swing it, get both ;-)

OK, I'll say it...if there is even a choice in your mind between these two cars, you are not pushing the Panny very hard. One is a big sports car, the other is an SUV. I suppose you could say the Panny is a "sporty sedan" and the Cayenne is a "sporty SUV" but the former doesn't capture the real essense of the Panny, which is IMO either a "sporty sedan" in normal mode or a "sedany supercar" in sport +.

I have owned both cars and I had a 2014 CTT. I would say that the 14 CTT was more fun on the road than my 2019 CTT. My 2018 Panamera Turbo was much closer to my 911 and it depends on the use. If you need the cargo space and room for three in the back, I would go with the 14 CTT. The Panamera is more fun to drive. The tech is a mixed bag and the 17 Panamera may have a 3G network which means there is no WiFi Hotspot and I am not sure about updating the navigation maps. Good Luck with you choice!
