Default Porsche Panamera (Failure)

So, I picked up my copy of Panorama today and read about the car.

1. Its ugly
2. WHO IN THE **** decided that putting the front drive diff in the engine case would be a good idea? That is a failure waiting to happen and not to mention ruins the long term prospect of the car.
3. Also I am mad because trying to undo all of the stupid things Porsche has done to this car has now become impossible on a small budget.
4. I hope everyone who buys them loves the repair bills that will follow...

-Sorry just venting cause it could have been good

Couldn't agree more. The Panamera is the Porsche equivalent to GM's Aztek. "A WTF are you thinking design", IMO.

While I agree with the questionable design of the cars stylings. You'd be suprised to see how popular the car is with people who have the money for one. It should do almost as well as the Cayenne.

Also, 0-60 in 4sec in a 4-Door that big is amazing! Should be fun to drive.

Seriously, only offering PDK and a AWD system that puts the front diff inside the engine case? That is something Audi would do and Porsche will pay serious cost for it in the future.. This will go down as the largest failure ever for Porsche.

It's been done already.

Mitsubishi EVO FQ400: 0-60mph in 3.5 sec
Audi RS4: 0-60 in 4.5 sec

Whoop-dee-doo. The car is pointless. It has also taken Porsche 5 years just to make the Cayenne look somewhat interesting.

Porsche needs help in the design department. BIG TIME.

Read the entire review by Autoextreamist on April 22, 2009. Basically, he thinks it's for the Chinese market.
http://www.autoextremist.com/current...extremist.html

In part:
"As far removed from its founder’s philosophy as you can possibly get – at least without being a truck - the Panamera is an oddly configured sedan with a heightened roof line to allow more room in the back seat so wealthy Chinese owners can be driven around in them. (As a matter of fact, it is said the Wendelin Wiedeking, Porsche’s CEO, had to be able to sit in the back of the Panamera comfortably before the car’s ungainly humpback design would get the green light.)"

They're like $355k in China.

I'm reserving judgment until I drive one.

I thought the Chinese were short people. They could fit fine in a 928.

Seems like the obvious solution is to avoid buying one if they're as bad as you say.

I'm looking forward to driving one, and then owning one in 10 years when the resale value is good. I bet they are one hell of a car. I don't even mind the way they look.

I really dig the Mercedes CLS-I'll reserve judgement until I see the car in person.

Let me predict success. Thus is a down market, so every prediction is dampened, but I think wealthy business types and their wife's will like it. As an alternative to an awd S550 or A8, it stands up pretty well. It will divert a few Maserati and Jaguar buyers, many BMW buyers, and a whole bunch of MB and Audi folks. Just my opinion, but I wanted to get on the record. When my wife's A6 goes, I will probably be next up. AS

I don't know who moved this, but discussion of the butt ugliness of a car in the OT forum should remain there. If the OP wanted to only discuss this with owners and interested parties, he would have posted it here. My guess is a better discussion would come from the broader cross section of members in OT. IMHO of course.
