'05 CS ('04 built) purchased on 11/2005:
Clunk first reported on 4/29/06 with 13k miles on the car. Diagnosed & fixed 7k miles later, and after numerous visits to various dealers, by replacing transfer box control unit. Lumbar support in driver's seat failed at 25k miles. Fixed only to later fail again the following day. Fixed as of last week and working so far :-D DME Control Module replaced, stop light switch replaced at 25k miles. Currently waiting to take care of knocking that has appeared 3 times so far after starting the car & while in park, originating from front of the engine. Stay tuned .... |

04 Turbo
Replaced all 8 coils Replaced rear hatch shocks Had computer flashed for rough idle Replaced Ceiling Sunglass holder (button broke off the day we got the Cayenne) Have had the radio checked at least 3 times for stopping to produce sound for no reason. Dealer has never been able to track. No fault codes, and always seems to work when taking it in for service. |

replaced radio (CDR-23) b/c of loss of radio settings (bass, treble, etc.); still not working; apparently, no fix available - a software problem. |

OK, got the car back this week, here is what was done-
04 turbo 13,000 miles.....yikes! Turning the steering wheel felt like air bubbles in the system. -Servotronic control unit replaced- part # 955-618-047-00 and relay above drivers knee area. Super smooth now, feels like I have power steering from a 72 caddy when going 5mph. Transmission control module replaced # 955-618-021 coded with new updated software and adapted control module. Wipers re-angled for chattering problem, fixed Had all 4 wheels/tires rebalanced using roadforce , no more shakes from 65 to 160, feels smooth Otherwise, got my car back in 2 days, been a hoot and the transmission is more responsive. Around town it is great with zero issues, the amazing thing is the kickdown from the tranny, very smooth not noticeable and with minimal push down of the accelerator I get proper gear. Hope it lasts... Also, got quote on warranty, $4300, we'll probably get it as I don't see $60k extra for an 08CTT a realistic move, can almost buy another Porsche for that much and keep my mechs happy

Is that a CPO or aftermarket warranty?

Lewis, the warranty is aftermarket but from the Porsche dealer I service at.
I discussed the Hawaii Five-O issue so we are safe, if something happens they are responsible, hense some insurace is padded in the price for them. Century Service is the company they use. I too was suprised by the wiper mod, what's next, take a hammer to the ECU everytime a pencil coil cracks for misbehaving HAHA! Anyway, saw a 996TT there, I am trying to find a nice one to enjoy with CPO, this is not our last Porsche but will be the only Cayenne. Forgot to mention, Yes, we will probably keep it well into naked if in the next 2 years the car is strong. If there is a catastrophic failure while under warranty, it will be fixed and traded without question.

Since Dr W drives a Cayenne, I wonder if HE got Cowboy Belt Buckles and had someone from the factory come out to the parking lot and bend his wiper arms....I somehow doubt it. On a semi related note, it is always fun to listen to stories during the Executive Committee test drives (prior to approval) when their wives drive the cars. Quote:
The 996TT is a bit 'fat' and more of a GT car than a sportscar. So, depending on what you're looking for, you may also consider a GT3.

I would like to follow up and say that we have made a breakthrough on the CTT. 1) Had an engine reflash (dealer didn't but said he didn't think it would do anything) 2) Had them replace the DME module for the transmission. THE END RESULT, it's like driving a new car! Night and day! While I doubt this had any impact, I should also note that I had all the PCM software updated. I know this has nothing to do with a mechanical operation of the car, its a Cayenne and its got all sorts of quirky electronics on it, so I thought I should mention it.
