Why does this remind me of Steve Martin in "The Jerk" when he runs down the street, excited, sceaming....

Question Trying to decide

My main thought is if it is worth the upgrade or not. In my case I have to pay $299 for the disks, plus an additional $168 for the firmware upgrade from PCM 2.0 Version 2.0 to PCM 2.0 Version 3.0.

For $467 I could buy a very nice portable GPS unit that can go with me in any vehicle and with a nice touch screen.

I think I will stick with my old disks.

Thanks for all the info about the updates.

Now, I'm confused. I have a 2004 turbo, when I hit the home + trip buttons to get my versions I get PCM 3.0 and Version 3.0. This is a CD based navigation. Could this be right, or are all of the units PCM 2.0 and the 3.0 I saw was just the version?

Mine says the same thing - not sure why, since it is the CD based PCM 2 system. I expect it's just the way the software V3.0 was set up to load. "Larry" (RIP) would probably have suggested it's a "bug."

That's what mine said too. If it's CD-based, then It's PCM 2.0. I think the 3.0 you saw is the firmware version.

Mine was already firmware version 3.0, so the installation of the new maps was very quick and easy.

So far, it has been worth it for me.

The 3.0 is referring to the firmware of the unit, its still PCM2.0 tho.

So all you need to do is insert the map disc for your area and it will self update

Thanks for the update mudman2! I just ordered a set from Sunset Porsche (they had to order some more = they are selling fast, but there are plenty at the warehouse in Atlanta)!

$299.00 + shipping is a good deal. I have 3.0 firmware so I'm ready for an upgrade! Now I can look up and find Larry to open up a can off whoop ass!

Mudman2 - thank so much for posting this update information. I'd pretty much given up on any updates from Porsche/Harmon Kardon. I will enjoy this one to it's fullest as it will probably be the last CD version. Again many many thanks.

Question Can I PM somebody my address

Just wondering if I could e-mail somebody my address to see if it shows up on the newest CD's. Our house was completed about 1 1/2 years ago. Just trying to get a feel for how new the update is.

Thanks!

Just installed the new updates. The basic update CD didn't load -I already had PCM 2 ver 3. The new map CD for my area loaded in just a few minutes.

thanks to all

I got mine and it comes in a nice Porsche leather CD carrying case. I was impressed.

Insert the CDs with the engine running until the update completes. It won't take long if you already have 3.0. Saved locations will be fine.
