Coolant pipes A-Z.

1.The pig pre op. Cayenne S.
2. upper pipes with thermostate housing
3. " " " "
4. Lower pipe.
5.Crack in lower pipe, outlined with grey sharpie.
6. " " " " "
7. After cutting lower pipe and removing majority of it. Rear console
8. Lower pipe @ engine block. Old pipe bits still installed.
9.Billet insert with o-rings.
10. Billet insert installed in rear console
11. New 2 piece lower pipe installed.
12.Close up of 2 piece connection, rubber hose connecting pipe to billet insert.
13.New lower pipe @ engine block connection.
14. New upper pipes, cast, one piece of alloy.
15. New lower and upper pipes installed, with new black plastic bleed lines. Intake can now go back on.

I still chuckle everytime I look where the starter ended up...under the plastic tube carrying water/antifreeze...I'm sure they had a good reason.

I would like to have been a fly on the wall in the boardroom when the engine plans were approved.
"Ja, ja very gut , Fritz. ve put zee sharter in zee meedle of zee engine so nobody sees it. Then vee vill run coolant lines, plastic, ja ja, plastic over zem. Ve make changing zee shtarter a 12 hour yob. You gonna tell me there was not one engineer there that had any problem with all of this?

Here's a copy of my invoice, Porsche52 or anyone else is welcome to add whatever is missing to this list for the DIY'er.

The job took the mech only one day, I advise to bring your car in the day before so everything is cold when they work on it.
I had no problems with the car, we just did it voluntarily

The total was $1607.33 from my local Porsche dealer.

Curious why those are mostly 948 part numbers and not 955 part numbers?

When did Porsche stop putting in the plastic coolant pipes? I assume that my 2004 has the plastic pipes, but it was a late build car in the cycle. Is it possible that they aren't plastic pipes? Is it possible to check by VIN? I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it...

To my knowledge, I do not believe they ever bulit engines from the factory with the metal pipes installed. We did a re-man engine a while back, it had plastic pipes, we converted it prior to installing it. Hell, the 2nd gen 9PA has a plastic coolant pipe under intake, there is only 1, but its plastic! The 2nd gen 997 (9A1) motor has platic pipes all over the place!!
