Unhappy 2008 cayenne turbo engine wall scored

Bought 2008 pepper turbo last spring from private dealer For $50.K Had 68k kms. Have maintained according to maintenance schedules. Rough idling, and engine light after 12K kms. Told needed 2 new plugs and coils. Asked about slight hesitation from 53-60 kms /hr since first drive.( told normal for turbo). Further inspection revealed scoring in cylinder wall. Service manager is trying to see if Porsche Canada will absorb cost of new engine block. Fingers crossed. Aprox. $30K. for refurbished +labor.

That sucks!! First I've heard of a Turbo engine with scoring. Keep us in the loop and good luck.

The TT engines can fail, usually there's a common denominator. Almost all the work we have done with the Cayenne engines has been in Canada, and even for Canadian dealerships, because the replacement engines just do it all over again.

Send it on! It's dying to be a 5.1!

My understanding (and I have no idea what I'm talking about here, especially relative to you) from your comments in the "ticking timebomb" thread is that CTTS don't suffer from scoring due to cold because they have forged pistons. Can you please clarify (as this may affect what I purchase in the future)? Also, I hope you're working on some kind of a DIY install block heater and that it will be ready before next winter

Block heater has been done a while now.. Just awaiting distribution... The issue is people don't know what causes the issues enough to seek out a fix for it.... Makes it hard to sell in the numbers that are required.

The TT engine issues with scoring are very isolated in comparison to the S engines. I've only had 4-5 experiences with TT engines and this issue. The cold wasn't the only contributing factor in a couple of them.
