Default Tiptronic works shifter doesnt "+" or "-"

Okay...so the other day I went to pull around a semi moved the shifter to M and went to "-" nothing tried moving it back to D and back to M still nothgin. Pushed the selector on the steering wheel everything worked fine. I tried multiple times on the ride home and nothing on the shifter but everything worked fine using the steering wheel controls. Hooked it up when I got home and no codes. I even took the key out let it sit and retried nothing from the shifter....The display does not show a "M" when moving the shifter. It does when using the tiptronic. thoughts?

Digging this up, I noticed my 04' 955Turbo doing this today. Any way you fixed it? I'm thinking about taking off the center console cover/protector thing and cleaning the connectors to the shifter.

Under the centre console cover you will find magnets and sensor.

Magnet holder has been known to break liberating magnets causing issues you describe.

Check it out.

Thanks Bigbuzki, I googled it after posting and noticed that on Renntech. Any idea what they look like? Just small squares, pins, flat?

Same thing happened to my 2004 s, replaced magnets, did nothing. It was an electrical problem caused by an accumulation of water under the front passenger footwell and seat. Lots of electrical under them. Drains had not been unplugged. The Indy just clean it up, no replacement parts and it has been great.

Just fixed this problem on my recently arrived 04 S. The wiring to the bottom of the shifter was chewed up - no idea why. Spliced in new wires, added some heatshrink and voila. Now excellent!
