Recognize this Cayman R ?
I am currently having a PPI done on this car in the North Chicago area. These cross country purchases make me nervous. I would really appreciate any information you might have if you've seen it on track or have any knowledge about it. Thx.

looks nice from the ad and pics. keep in mind, it's listed at $59k on other websites. here's the autotrader ad:
Cayman R
prices on Cayman R's have come down dramatically in the last 3 months alone. Under $60k was a pipe dream just in December and now there are several listed under $60k, with i'm sure some more wiggle room to get into the mid $55k range. be smart and patient

Funny story... I was at Road America for a PCA DE and some dude in a 997 turbo started giving me lip about me wanting to street race and then commenting on my lowly intermediate run group. I didn't have a clue what he was talking about, but it got me all kinds of fired up.
I have an aqua blue cayman S that, at the time, had silver stripes making it look a lot like this car. It was the driver of this R that drove up on the 997T's wide rear end the morning that the driver gave me lip. What are the odds of two aqua blue caymans with non-factory-option silver stripes being at the same DE event?
Anyway... I digress. I also saw this R at a private track day at Autobahn CC in Joliet. Pretty sure the PO did a fair number of DE days. Not that that's a bad thing.

RD, strange odds indeed. Not that many blue ones out there to begin with. Agree about the DE days...It's a car made for the track . If the guy changed out the fluids after each DE like I do it should be fine. Hope to get the PPI results today.

Looks like the reserve on eBay wasn't met. Bidding ended at $51k. It is a nice looking car. Wish I could keep the 993 C4S and add a Cayman to the mix. The price increases on the 993 has me thinking it is best to sit on my car for a while.

993 values are rising and Cayman R values are dropping. wait it out. I think Cayman R's will stabilize around $50-51k for private purchase and $53-54k for dealer CPO later this year. The lot of them you see listed above $60k have been there since 2013.

Maybe this is a naïve question, but given that a significant % of R's have been tracked, wouldn't it make more sense to hunt for a CPO car so at least you'd know that Porsche has gone over the car with a fine toothed comb AND is willing to extend the warranty? 'Seems like it might be worth the additional price.

Three Wheelin'
And lighter. And better engineered. And that you can pick the options. And is new. And is cheaper. And will depreciate more.....
I went through the same thing, starting with the thought of getting an R but after looking at a few, I ordered a new S. The 987 looks tired to me, especially the interior. And other than the rarity and depreciation, the 981 is a better deal I think.
