I just saw an 08 advertised at 26% off, $68k+ msrp down to $50k. Is that the norm these days?

May depend on where you live, but between the economy, and given the fact that a lot of buyers who want a new Cayman S, will want the Gen. 2 model (i.e. 2009+) - the dealers are probably having a more difficult time moving the 08s. (See Trader220's post above)

Default Tried to put deposit on '08 Cayman S offered at $20,000 off...

of sticker. Dealer refused deposit cause car advertised in 3 day sale starting Friday and can't take deposit on sale cars.

Either I had to buy car now or wait and take my chances.

Since I'm waiting for settlement for my new Cayman totaled in accident and I didn't have enough spare change to buy car outright then wait for settlement money to replenish my checking account I decided to just take my chances and see if car remains unsold through sale. Not likely but....

Tried to buy another '08 Cayman S stickered at a bit over $75K. Left lot without buying with price down to $59,999 with the very strong hint $1000 maybe $2000 more discount available.

But still a bit more money than I want to spend. Car has some options I'm not too fond of: 19" wheels and PCM and premium sound and similar options that I just don't care to have in a car. I use my car to get away from the office, not to become my office away from my office.

Couple of dealers said they'd deal on '09's if I'm unable to find an '08.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Spend the extra $$$ and get the '09! I ended up with 7.5% off and couldn't be happier as I got the car with the options and color I wanted.

I think the extra 25 ponies do make a noticeable difference over the 2008 and I am happy I have no regrets. I realize that I could have save $15k+ easily by going with a 2008 but then I would have spent 7k+ in mods trying to get the performance on par with the 09s.

Oh, and I told my wife the fuel economy was significantly better

i dont know what's the relationship b/n mspr and invoice. i dont deal from msrp. i look at invoice. for 2009 cay s, i get 1500 over invoice for both car in stock or ordered. i am in calif, probably the most expensive market in USA.

macster, if you are buying from livermore porsche, DONT. PM me and i will hook you up and beat whatever deal you have in CA. i am not a dealer, but i buy a lot of cars so have a few sales friends who dont rob me blind.

i used to live with in 10 miles of livermore porsche, but i buy from 40 miles away.

considerably under invoice. My math is dealer cost of car 87% of its MSRP. Thus that $75K car cost dealer $65,250. Dealer offered me car at $59.9K and suggested another $1000 to $2000 discount possible.

If my math any good this suggests dealer selling car a discount of nearly 23%.

However, I'd like to see what car prices your contact has. My numbers may of course not be right or I can be working with the wrong or outdated info.

PM on its way to you...

Sincerely,

Macster.

i presume at this level of discount you are talking about 08 cars, non DFI?
if so, that's about right. the street price is b/n 12-15k off msrp. for the gen one cars.

can be discounted 7 to 8 percent and maybe more.

I sense some dealers quite hungry and anxious to sell a car.

Have eyes on an 09 Cayman S with DFI that well I'll wait until I have my Cayman S settlement in the bank then I can negotiate seriously for the car and see what prices really are.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Default Great Thread...

Great thread. As a prospective Cayman S buyer, this is very helpul info. I previously owned a 2003 Nissan 350Z, I'm in the market this year for a new 370Z or Cayman S. Never owned a Porsche and trying to justify spending the extra money on the Cayman, as I'll have to wait a little longer. It's encouraging to know that with some negotiation a significant discount on MSRP can be had.

I got 7% off an 09 S equipped the way I wanted it. I could have done better at another dealer but I wouldn't have received near the level of service. I was willing to pay more for the service.

We have a black / black 09 S manual car which I can sell for a shade over 9% off in stock. Stickers for $61,140.. just to give you a little color on the market right now. I can do a lot better on the White S PDK launch car too.
