Default Cordless Impact Wrenches?

Does anyone use cordless wrenches to tighten and torque the wheel nuts? If you do, what make and model are you using?

Thanks

I use a Milwaukee M18. Loosen the nuts well. However I use a torque wrench for final tightening. The Milwaukee has enough power to torque the nuts but I use a torque wrench so I don’t overtorque.

There are several good makes / models to choose from. I went with Milwaukee as I had several other Milwaukee tools that use the same batteries.

I'm running the Dewalt 20V Max XR 1/2 cordless impact.
Do you guys find your M18 has enough torque to break the nuts loose at all times? My 991 nuts seem to torque themselves down to absurd levels. I run optimol anti seize paste and torque to 350 ftlb with a precision tools torque wrench (typical street GT3 torque wrench).
After running on track, my nuts torque down to the point that my Dewalt at full power won't break them loose 50% of the time (claimed to have 1200 ftlb of breakaway power). I end up having to use an utterly massive breaker bar, with a 3ft steel pipe for additional leverage.

I just bought a brand new set of nuts from PMNA, and switched my anti seize to the Molykote used on ferrari challenge cars, but haven't had that setup on track yet.

Wow, I wonder what I'm doing wrong that's leading to such wildly overtorqued nuts on my 991?

Old nuts or not properly greased - that is typically the reason for why they get over tightened. It is surprising how little the hrs of use on the nuts are recommended to be, but rightfully so.

You're using a 1/2"impact wrench?

That's the difference I guess, they talk about a 1" Milwaukee M18. I use the same, also used it in endurance races, perfect tool and always got the wheel nut off.

Different tools for different purposes IMO. The hytorq tool takes a long time to operate. For cup car use where you slam on and go brrp--brrp an impact gun is much, much faster.

I use a Makita 3/4 drive impact. The socket is 3/4 drive and this way I don’t need an adapter. Works fine every time. I have tried a 1/2 drive with an adapter and it would not remove them.

Milwaukee 2867 M18 1". I use this to remove the nuts, works great. No need to have someone hold the brake or wheel.
