Default Detune 996 Cup Car?

Might be sacrilege -- but considering picking up a cup car to campaign in an endurance series.

See plenty of posts how to increase horsepower -- but I would need to lower it. There's only so much ballast to be had -- plus that adds to wear and tear and consumables.

What would one do to detune the cup car to reduce the power/weight ratio as well as improve longevity?

The cars take very nicely to a restrictor plate as mentioned. We make a plate system for the 996.2 style intakes. It goes between the air filter and the housing. Take a look at the link.

Our experience with about a dozen cars restricted down to 100 hp less than stock is that the engine computer compensates for the restriction and the air/fuel ratio is about the same as unrestricted.

We had done this to run the cars in NASA GTS3 and GTS4. I currently have a different restrictor in my 991 to run it in GTS4.

Roger the above -- is there a way to easily restrict the RPMs/ reprogram the rev-limiter -- figured that would also be a way (combined with the restrictor) to provide some longevity as well as reduce the HP.

I don’t know about the rpm limiting, but the restrictor plate worked great on my 996 cup.

Woah 100 hp less in a 996 cup would be grip for days!
