Default 991.2 engine rebuild questions

Is it true that the 991.2 Cup engine can only be rebuilt twice?

What then, new engine? How much does that cost through PMNA?

Correct, and last I knew mid-60's on an engine.

Is that 36K a rebuild price or new engine?

This is my main reason for sticking with the 991.1 and 3.8

We know that amateur racers and DE drivers typically employ more relaxed rebuild schedules. In fact, some of the “pro’ teams in non-Carrera Cup series skip the 30 hour transmission rebuild and just do the 60 hr. That leads me to wonder, is it really necessary to buy a new engine after 300 hours? ( I also wonder how many Cups even make it to 300 hours). For the next decade +/- this may be a largely academic issue.

Last thought, X years from now, will clever engine rebuilders have learned how to rebuild 300 hr engines for additional hours?

Porsche Motorsports will only rebuild 2 times for cars raced in the Carrera cup series. But that doesn't mean the Indy shop cannot rebuild them beyond that.
We will have a lot more 991.2 and 992 cups going over 150 hours in amateur racing this coming year or two.

Assuming the engines make it that far, yes... experience with that motor isn't as positive as some of the other iterations.

Rebuild will most likely require sleeving the cylinders. Someone will come up with that soon as more cars are being raced.

I was more so implying the pre-emtive failures that are most often catastrophic. But yes, in time they will be rebuilt and figured out best options long-term.

Understand,
I've also seen these engines with 150 hours being taken apart and looking good.

There are a bunch of us DE guys with them now...Knock on wood...We are going much longer without anything other than REGULAR maintenance with good oils, etc. One guy in the group has well over 200 hours (he is FAST too) on his motor. Had almost 200 hours on the transmission until it started acting a bit "weird"...Installed a used one and no issues since then.
