964 Cup
Currently racing a 2005 996 Cup and looking at a 964 Cup.
Want to be sure i go after the right car and pass on the wrong ones.
Rollcage:
Most cars i see do not have a cross bar in the doors. They have one bar that diagonally connects the A to the B pillar.
But i have seen some cars that do have a cross bar in the doors (see atached)
Also i have seen cars with and without the bar that basically sits in fron of your knees going from left to right (behind the ash tray)
Does anybody have thoughts on this Matter
(speaking of cages ;-)
VIN Numbers:
Where else other then in the front trunk can you see the VIN number ?
What are the key differences that one can see between a modified 964 and real 964 Cup ?
Thanks a lot in advance

Supercup 964's had the cross bars at the doors...many 964 cups had them added I am told. Never saw one that had the bar under the ashtray area connected like the one you have in the pciture. Schmitz has a really nice 1991 Carrera Cup France for sale... big $$ I bet.

I'm sure Paul McLean @GT Classics will know - he really knows his onions ...

there should be an abs override between the speedometer and clock - it is missing. Cross bar is not normal. door bar was maybe added later.
there are tons of differences. Seam welds, different suspension pieces, lightweight glass, to mention a few.
The definitive way to check is to match the chassis codes (stamped in various places) with the gearbox, engine, and VIN. the problem here is that Porsche guards this information like a hawk and will not give it out..

ABS override was added to cars later on but only showed up from the factory on 1992 cars onwards I have read...was in Christophorus, link posted above in the thread. Mine had the wiring harness installed but no switch was ever put on the dash...had a single pole switch dangling under the dash though. Oreca had some service records for my car when it was in France, they said they added it to some of the earlier cars when I asked about it.
