Hello,
My name is Nick from Athens (europe) and I am in the Market for my first cup! i have read a lot of posts the last days and i try to learn as many things as i can. I need the Car for 5-6 trackdays per year.

I am between a 997.2 with paddles and ABS and a 991.1 cup.
From what i understand i need a Car with low hours very well maintened.
Can you please give me your lights ? what do you suggest me to check? any other options on the Car that i should consider ? and finaly what is the Market price for a well maintained cup this pediod ?

plenty of choice. It' a buyers market. Prices are all over the place and I think you can do quite some negociating considering the amount of cars for sale. It's a good time to pick up a 991.1 from a Supercup team since they will all run the 991.2 now.

Check for overrevs and all claimed history should be backed with invoices. Also don't forget other parts that time out, such as drive shafts. You don't want to lose a wheel on track so you either need to factor in the price of changing them yourself of have solid proof of the amount of hours those parts did.

If budget is not an issue i'd go for the 991.

two guys in our shop just went to 991.1 from a 996 Cup and a 997 Cup

good time to get them, 2016 has all upgrades if get a 2013-15 make sure has the transmission upgrade

this would be a great way to go, but that's a lot of car!!

so you believe it is much better to go for a 991.1 car from a racing team... what is tha market value ?

I have found one 991 2015 model with 0 hours on engine (after rebuild) and about 15 hours on trans he told me that they opened it and had no prob. my heart says to go for a 991 too.. I will ask now for the trans upgrade. any other must have options ?

they all start out from a race team. so want one in the best condition and lowest hours on engine and tranny. the tranny upgrade is a must


the one you found sounds good

in US it would go for around 200K US dollars

also would avoid a crashed or retubbed car if you can. nothing wrong if properly done that's just me

Nick, I went from a 997 to a 991 and I will tell you that the 991 is really an upgraded car as compared to the 997. The 997 is a great car and well seasoned so bugs are out but the 991 has been around long enough now that they are both dependable and great cars to drive. I personally feel as if it is an easier car to drive also. Good luck with whatever you do. I noticed you are in Athens and would love to know where you do track events as I am there every year in the summer!

we have only 2 tracks in Greece. One (smaller) is in Athens at Megara and the other is in Thessaloniki Serres circuit which is bigger. if we had nice tracks I would have a racing car many years now...
it is my dream though so even for 4-5 trackdays a year I will pull the trigger.

Cant be to many cup's in Greece so congratulations on making the decision to get one... i only do about 5 track days a year but its well worth it..
Athens feels like my second home when I'm there, would love to see your cup if you get one in Greece

So decide what you like better...would you buy a GT3RS 4.0 or a new 991 GT3 RS?

To me that's the same comparison of 997.2 vs 991 but on steriods

thank you guys for your replies. It seems that a 991 cup costs in Europe nowadays between 115.000-140.000 euros + vat
non of these have the 2016 trans upgrade though... (I don't know if this is so important ) even if the cars are 2016 spec.
on the other hand a 997.2 costs about 75-90.000 euros + vat of course.. (with paddle gearbox and abs) so I am a little bit confused. I will take though my decision in weekend.

Go 991. Gearbox rebuilds on 997 will be very frustrating and set you back easily 20K per rebuild and i know people who have more then one per year.
991 = more hrs on both gearbox and engine and rebuild costs engine much cheaper. All due to paddle shift with rev limiter. no over revs anymore.
Seen many 997 ECU's with max_revs of 11.000 rpm and more. With 991 impossible. When engine rebuild: only replace cylinder heads. no pistons or rods.

By the way, they DO NOT all start with a race team...I bought both my 12 and 16 from PMNA and didn't race them in IMSA, etc.
