It's all subjective of course but I think they are drop dead gorgeous cars. Modern automotive works of art.

The only thing that could accerlate the apperciation is the continued rapid rate of the cost of fuel causing the manufacturers to focus primarily on fuel efficent sporty cars with less HP. Or a sudden increase in performance car insurance rates making them impractical to build.
My opinion is the CGT will continue to decline in value and will bottom out around $300,000. There will be a very small market for the car and speculators will jump in. The value will begin to rise briefly but fall back. With the warranty period running by 2008, there will be no market for the car. The super car market of today will not be like it is for the Hemi's and some of the other over priced cars. The cost of maintaining the super cars of today in 20 years will almost be prohibitive.

Also, in 20 years many of the present owners like Les, Mike, Ray, Chuck, Amir and Dmin will still have their CGT. MORE IMPORTANTLY, in 20 years I will be known as the attorney who drafted unassailable language to be placed in Wills which require the heirs of the deceased CGT owners to bury them in their beloved car.

Now that I know you are an attorney a lot of other stuff makes sense.

I purchased an extended warranty for mine, 7/100,000.

Of course it probably doesn't cover much of anything, but it wasn't terribly expensive either.

Nick,

Since you seem to be the great prognisticator with a firm grip on what the future holds I could use some help with my pro football picks this weekend.

I'd take a 959 and never look back.

Each is a fine auto in its own right. The 430 a is stunning looker (have not driven one). The GT2 is wicked. The CGT is both.

My old Countach is still a looker, too, but I find I only drive the CGT. I still use my 996TT, but mostly as a driver. I spent a day this week whipping a baby Lambo around a track. Very nice, a lot of fun, but not a CGT. Fact is a superb car like the CGT makes "merely exceptional" cars feel underwhelming. The only reason not to buy the CGT is if you would use the extra money for some other addiction or need (like a second home or a car to haul family stuff).

nick: referring to fugu and maguro as "puffer fish" and "blue tail" is akin to saying porch and furawree - choose analogies you actually know something about.

Beyond an apples and oranges comparison. Those cars are so different I don't think they compete for someone who knows what they like. The SL65 is all bling and drag race horsepower, it will never feel like a CGT or a 430. Not that its a bad thing if its what you want. Likewise a 430 or CGT will never be as comfortable for cruising or have a retractable roof like the SL. Its all a matter of taste and style. I'm glad we have choices.

BTW sometimes I prefer Cheeseburgers to a steak. Not much better than In 'n Out when you're in the mode.
