You will get a feel for when your clutch starts to engage as you release it. For the really steep hills, I have the right foot on the brake as I'm releasing the clutch with the left foot, then ease off the brake as the clutch starts to engage. The moment I hear the small amount of auto throttle and the car begins to move slightly forward, my right foot is already on the gas and off we go. This way there is almost no rolling backward while waiting for the clutch to engage. After a while, it becomes second nature and the transition from green light to gas is less than two seconds if done smoothly.
